Position Summary
The production planner develops daily and weekly production schedules to ensure the customer requirements are met on time and to quality ISO standards. This position will have direct responsibility for analyzing and determining material requirements, inventory levels, and maintaining optimal machine shop and assembly line capacity. This Position is located onsite in Asheville, NC and reports to the Plant Manager.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Release and monitor work orders for the manufacturing and assembly departments to satisfy the production requirements.
- Utilize ERP system (D365) to ensure accurate routing and release for the shop floor.
- Track and coordinate production status with production leads to resolve any delays or issues.
- Maintain due dates and quantities for manufacturing and purchase orders in support of customer/forecast orders.
- Utilize Microsoft D365 MRP system to analyze, report, manage production control data, and reconcile inventory cycle counts for discrepancies.
- Generate and distribute daily production control reports through D365 (e.g., WIP status, backlogs, shortages).
- Utilize bill of materials to verify materials that are used on a particular unit.
- Review open sales orders to determine material requirements and plant capacity.
- Operate as a point of contact for the commercial and supply chain team.
- Notify the commercial and supply chain teams of shortages and past due orders and past due PO’s and managing inventory.
- Communicate with Purchasing, Warehouse, and Receiving to track incoming material.
- Verify material availability before releasing jobs.
- Escalate critical material or schedule issues to appropriate stakeholders.
- Schedule customer sales orders based on availability when requested by sales.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
Experience and Education
- Associate’s degree is required in business, supply chain or a related field.
- Bachelor’s Degree is preferred in business, supply chain or a related field.
- 2-4 years of experience in manufacturing or production control environment.
- 2-4 years of experience in understanding planning, scheduling, and supply chain parameters.
- Previous experience in MRP systems (D365 preferred).
- Working knowledge of computer and MS office applications.
Technical Skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Understanding of Bills of Materials (BOMs), routings, and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and engineering drawings.
- High attention to detail and data accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively across departments.
