Production / Material Manager

This professional multitasker will manage and oversee the planning, purchasing, and scheduling activities meeting customer needs and efficiency standards. The ideal candidate is both a team-player and team-leader who is exceptionally detail-oriented, possessing the ability to track multiple facets of production operations at any given time. You must weigh competing priorities to achieve customer satisfaction by maintaining maximum in stock status on hundreds of products.

Objectives of this Role

· Ensure the production facility operates at peak efficiency, by managing raw material needs, vendor lead times and machine schedules

· Establish, monitor, manage and continually improve operational goals

· Manage scheduling operations by determining purchased raw material and manufactured component requirements, equipment utilization, and efficient routing of production orders through the plant to achieve stakeholder satisfaction

· Prioritize production of stock items and custom orders to align with customer expectations as well as minimize changeover time/expense and work center bottlenecks

· With manufacturing leadership identify and manage Critical Production Resources to minimize cost and maximize customer satisfaction

· Review and prepare daily and weekly production schedules and measure actual vs expected execution

· Work with manufacturing team to develop strategies to continually improve stakeholder metrics

· Identify needs for raw materials and purchased finished goods based on production orders, forecasts, and customer needs

· Place purchase orders and track receipt to ensure materials are received in time and at optimal cost

· Identify alternative sources of materials/finished goods as required due to supply chain disruption or new requirements

· Develop vendor qualification expectations and track vendor performance

· Negotiate competitive pricing on new and existing raw materials and finished goods. The entire cost from purchase cost to delivered cost through the production cycle must always be considered.

· Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations

Daily and Monthly Responsibilities

· Plan daily/weekly activities of the production facility to maximize product availability by optimizing machine productivity

· Work with customer service, sales, supervisors, and plant management to identify key priorities and explain projected in-stock dates

· Update PO delivery dates as needed

· Schedule and oversee warehouse team to meet the demands of order fulfillment, and manage the flow and quality of work to maximize efficiency and minimize overtime

· Inspect equipment, tools, and machinery regularly, and oversee general maintenance as needed

· Meet regularly with department supervisors and plant management to review, analyze, and develop actionable plans for productivity improvement through scheduling

· Develop and continuously improve inventory turns, while improving on-time customer shipment and customer order fulfillment

Skills and Qualifications

· Degree in supply chain disciplines or business or High School diploma with commensurate experience

· Proficient knowledge of ethical purchasing practices, inventory management strategies, planning and production scheduling

· Excellent problem-solving skills and leadership qualities

· Ability to work with all levels of company staff

· Comfortable delivering frequent direct written and oral updates to various stakeholders

· Adept with computer systems

· Demonstrated ability to balance competing priorities and solve complex problems

Preferred Qualifications

· Advanced degree in logistics, supply chain management or other related subject matter

· 3+ years’ experience in a scheduling lead role

· Proficient with scheduling management tools, including forecasting

· Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel

· Knowledge of manufacturing workflows, inventory management and purchasing

Salary commensurate with experience
