Job Summary:
The Pulper Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of pulping equipment used to break down recycled or virgin fiber materials into pulp for paper production. This role involves monitoring equipment, controlling process parameters, performing routine maintenance, and ensuring that pulp quality meets production standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate and monitor pulping equipment including pulpers, detrashers, ragger systems, and associated conveyors and pumps.
- Load raw materials (e.g., bales of recycled paper or virgin fiber) into the pulper according to production schedules.
- Adjust machine settings to maintain optimal pulp consistency, cleanliness, and fiber quality.
- Conduct visual inspections and quality checks on the pulp and remove contaminants or foreign materials.
- Record production data, downtime, and equipment adjustments in logbooks or computerized systems.
- Perform routine cleaning and minor maintenance of equipment; promptly report malfunctions or safety hazards.
- Communicate effectively with control room operators, maintenance teams, and shift supervisors.
- Adhere to all plant safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in safety meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; technical training in industrial operations preferred.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or paper mill environment is strongly preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret gauges, dials, and process documentation.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks in a physically demanding environment.
- Standing, walking, bending, and climbing for extended periods.
- Exposure to hot, humid, and noisy conditions typical of a paper manufacturing facility.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: Up to $19.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 48 per week
