Position Summary:
Oregon Berry Packing, Inc. has been providing premium blueberries, strawberries, black raspberries and unparalleled customer service since 1948. Three generations of our family have worked hard to establish Oregon Berry Packing, Inc. as a quality supplier of the highest quality berries. Oregon’s climate and soil give our berries a sweeter flavor than other berry-growing regions.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Blueberry Quality Control Intern to join our team during the peak harvest season. The QC Intern will assist with monitoring, inspecting, and documenting the quality of blueberries throughout the packing, storage, and shipping processes. This is a hands-on learning opportunity ideal for students pursuing degrees in Agriculture, Food Science, Horticulture, or related fields.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform quality checks on incoming and outgoing blueberry shipments
- Inspect fruit for defects including bruising, mold, decay, color, firmness, and size
- Assist with sampling and grading according to company and USDA standards
- Record and maintain quality data in logs and databases
- Communicate quality issues or trends to QC Supervisors and production staff
- Help ensure compliance with food safety and hygiene standards
- Participate in daily QC meetings and training sessions
- Assist with shelf-life studies and other special projects as needed
- Conduct float tests using a saltwater solution to detect the presence of insects in produce, ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer-specific requirements. This includes preparing the solution, performing the test per lot, observing and documenting findings, and reporting any nonconformities to QC leadership.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
