OVERVIEW:
The Quality Improvement Specialist coordinates key quality improvement (QI) activities and projects.
Duties, functions and responsibilities:
  • Coach and conduct performance assessments with organizations involved in clinical quality initiatives;
  • Coordinate and conduct weekly on-site evaluations at health centers as part of data validation for any projects associated with PCMH, NCQA, P-GIP and CARF;
  • Assist in the planning, coordination, facilitation and evaluation of QI learning sessions – including curriculum, agenda, and faculty
  • Arrange trainings, webinars and/or identify qualified trainers for key topics that support quality improvement
  • Works in partnership with Medical Director, Administration, Managers, and other staff to provide advice, facilitation and support related to project management, process improvement and interpretation of a variety of data and outcomes measures.
  • Measure impact and sustain improvements made at clinics.
  • Demonstrate ability to make recommendations and implement quality improvement interventions based on results of projects.
  • Converts data into useable information, and measures the impact of improvement initiatives.
  • Applies project planning and management to effectively meet outcome, time, and budget parameters.
  • Assures that quality improvement activities are documented and reported within the organization and externally as appropriate.
  • Performs other job-related responsibilities as requested.
KnowleDge, skills, and abilities:
  • Basic understanding of health clinic processes and operations is required. Understanding of FQHC processes and operations preferred;
  • Knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Integrity/ Compliance Program, Code of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior;
  • Knowledge of audit/study methodology and health statistics
  • Excellent project management skills required to manage multiple competing objectives and to communicate information to executive leadership, management, and end-users;
  • Working knowledge of various clinical systems;
  • Knowledge of concurrent and retrospective chart review;
  • Demonstrated clinical expertise to effectively facilitate evaluation of quality care;
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, organize, facilitate, and lead special projects;
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, hospital staff, and external organizations;
  • Analytical skills necessary to analyze and evaluate systems, procedures and processes and identify solutions to system problems.
  • Excellent organizational, presentation and communication skills;
  • The ability to collect, analyze and present data in a meaningful way to a wide variety of audiences with various skill levels and various levels of expertise and knowledge;
  • Excellent customer service skills.

Minimum qualifications:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a health field such as health sciences, public health, health administration or similar; Master’s Degree in Health Services preferred.
Credentials:
  • Certified Healthcare Quality Professional (CPHQ) preferred, or ability to acquire certification within one year of employment.
  • Registered Nurse Licensure by State of Michigan Board of Nursing preferred.
  • LEAN training strongly preferred.
Work Experience
  • 3 year’s clinical experience with exposure to Electronic Health Records.
  • 5 year’s process improvement experience with knowledge of managed care plans, quality metrics, process improvement cycles such as PDSA and Root cause analysis;
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Must provide own transportation as travel throughout the Metro-Detroit area will be regularly required.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Frequently exposed to moderately adverse working conditions in performing certain patient care activities. Some exposure to communicable diseases possible with small percentage of harm, if established health procedures are followed.
