Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Quality Supervisor.
Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. We provide cradle-to-grave services for primary and secondary composite structures. This position is located in our San Diego, CA office and reports to the Quality Manager.
Position Summary:
The position will be responsible for leading the quality assurance team to ensure that our products, services, and processes meet the highest standards of safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency. The Quality Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing quality control processes, leading a team of Quality Inspectors, and implementing improvements to enhance product reliability and customer satisfaction.
Essential Supervisory Functions:
- Provide day-to-day supervision and support to quality control inspectors, engineers, document control clerks, and other staff, ensuring tasks are performed efficiently and in accordance with established procedures and schedules.
- Assign and adjust workloads, projects, and responsibilities in real time to optimize resource allocation, maintain operational efficiency, and achieve organizational objectives.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate quality inspection schedules, including inspection type, responsible authority, readiness dates, and completion timelines.
- Collaborate and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams – including Operations, Engineering, Program Management, and Material Control – to provide updates, resolve issues, drive process improvements, and enhance overall product quality.
- Deliver clear expectations, timely feedback, and fair conflict resolution to foster collaboration and accountability.
- Identify training needs, arrange skill development opportunities, and provide guidance to ensure team members perform effectively.
- Oversee the Material Review Board (MRB) process to ensure nonconforming products are properly identified, documented, and dispositioned according to procedures.
Essential Quality System Functions:
- Develop and implement team goals and objectives aligned with Rock West Composites’ Quality Management System, AS9100 including ISO 9001 standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
- Ensure products consistently meet or exceed Rock West Composites’ and industry quality standards by monitoring and maintaining quality control processes throughout the product lifecycle.
- Perform regular audits of work centers and production lines, investigate nonconformances or product defects, and oversee corrective and preventive actions to resolve quality issues.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives – including root cause analysis, Lean, and Six Sigma methodologies – by analyzing quality data and trends to identify areas for improvement.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date quality documentation (e.g., inspection records, quality reports, process control charts) and prepare/present quality performance reports to management.
- Provide coaching, training, and performance evaluations to team members to build capability, accountability, and a culture of quality awareness across the organization.
- Promote an engaged, energized workforce by modeling and encouraging a proactive attitude toward quality and compliance.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Required Education and Experience:
- High School diploma / GED is required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering field with Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in an AS9100 quality system with at least 3 year in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Experience with composite materials and processing techniques such as autoclave, RTM, and compression molding. Composite manufacturing experience is a big plus.
- Must possess strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills and work effectively across all areas of the business.
- Current computer literacy is a must, including full proficiency in the use of the entire Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Experience with visual factory and lean manufacturing methods such as 5S and Kaizen.
- Experience with contact and noncontact inspection methods. CMM operating proficiency is a big plus.

Compensation:
The hourly range for this position falls within $34 and $42. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
