Job Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Reading Specialist to support the literacy development of students across a range of reading levels in grades six through twelve. The ideal candidate will have expertise in implementing targeted literacy interventions, conducting formal and informal reading assessments, and collaborating with educators to support student success. Candidates should possess a strong knowledge of adolescent literacy development and interventions that work in small-group Academic Intervention models and must be skilled at utilizing data to develop diagnostic intervention plans, individualized based on student need. The Reading Specialist will co-plan with other teachers to support the integration of literacy strategies across content-area classes. This position focuses on improving reading fluency, comprehension, phonics, and overall literacy outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
● Deliver targeted, evidence-based reading instruction to students in small groups or individual settings
● Administer and interpret a variety of literacy assessments to identify student needs and monitor progress
● Design and implement personalized intervention plans aligned with student assessment data
● Utilize a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework to guide instructional decisions
● Collaborate with classroom teachers, special educators, and other support staff to ensure coordinated literacy support
● Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and communicate results to stakeholders
● Participate in professional development to stay current on research-based literacy practices and interventions
● Support the implementation of school-wide literacy initiatives
● Uphold the mission of Our Lady of Mercy School for Young Women
● Demonstrate the Mercy charisms and act as a role model of world-class learning
● Promotes Mercy values and Critical Concerns in our community
● Participate in Mercy traditions and celebrations
Required Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s or master's degree in Literacy or evidence that demonstrates a strong knowledge of literacy through classroom instruction
● Valid teaching certification
● Demonstrated experience in literacy instruction and intervention strategies
● Proficiency in administering and analyzing literacy assessments
● Strong understanding of reading development, including phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension
● Excellent communication and collaboration skills
● Experience working with diverse student populations, including English language learners and students with reading disabilities
Preferred Skills and Knowledge:
● Familiarity with structured literacy approaches (e.g., Wilson, LETRS training)
● Experience with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring tools
● Ability to differentiate instruction based on assessment data and student needs
● Knowledge of literacy standards (e.g., Next Generation Learning standards)
Pay Range:
● Minimum $46,748.00 per year (Compensation is based on a step scale to include years of experience and educational background)
