BASIC FUNCTION: The City of Medford seeks a qualified professional Program Manager to oversee the design, development, supervision, and management of all recreation programs run in-house or through contractors. Works with the Recreation team to plan and run department and city-wide events.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED: Works under the direction of the Recreation Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises, organizes, and evaluates a multitude of recreation activities, including school vacation weeks, after-school, and Saturday programs.
- Coaches and instructs program participants as needed.
- Communicates with parents and participants.
- Recruits and helps train staff and program contractors.
- Manages front desk operations, including responding to general emails and phone calls.
- Registers patrons for programs and activities using recreation management software.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Recreation Director or Assistant Recreation Director.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Recreation Administration or related field
- Three (3) years of experience working in a recreation program.
- Massachusetts Class D driver's license.
Preferred:
- Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills required.
- Possesses outstanding organizational and time-management skills.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Knowledge of recreation management software or equivalent.
Physical Requirement:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit, talk, or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts or in outside weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Some work is performed in a normal office environment, subject to extreme variations of temperature, noise, odors, etc.
- Some work is performed outside in varying degrees of temperature.
DEPARTMENT: Recreation Department.
HOURS OF WORK: Full-time (35 hours/week) including evenings and weekends.
SALARY: Union CAF- 8 ($1,193.77-$1,318.13/week).
