Description

The NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research is committed to creating new knowledge about the root causes of poverty, developing evidence-based interventions to address its consequences, and rapidly translating research findings into action through policy and best practices.

We are seeking a talented and motivated full-time Research Associate for the randomized controlled trial: “Treating Maternal PTSD to Enhance Parenting and Reduce Maltreatment Recidivism: Safe Mothers, Safe Children (SMSC).” This study, an exciting collaboration between the Administration for Child Services and NYU, aims to improve the identification, case management, and treatment of mothers with trauma-related disorders who are raising young children, and receiving child welfare preventive services to reduce the risk of repeat maltreatment and improve positive parenting. This role is for someone with an interest in the cutting edge of social science research and systems changes.

Working with a team of clinicians and investigators, and reporting to the Project Director, the Research Associate oversees day-to-day study operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead data entry, database management, and basic data analysis
  • Coordinate and generate study progress reports, grant reports, manuscripts, and presentations
  • Randomize participants to treatment groups and communicate clinician assignments
  • Comply with current IRB regulatory requirements and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to research protocol, as well as screening, consent, and assessment procedures
  • Track participant progress along the study and update records accordingly
  • Oversee project progress and deliverables in collaboration with the Project Director and senior investigators
  • Project management and organization
  • Maintain effective and ongoing communication with project sponsors, preventive agencies, state and city government departments, and research staff
  • Collaborate with research staff and IRBs to conduct study audits and implement recommendations
  • Facilitate and schedule staff and external stakeholder meetings
  • Supervise 1-2 interns

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in social science, health sciences, social work, psychology, counseling or related disciplines
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in research/university setting and experience with University IRB
  • Advanced familiarity with principles of protocol development, study design, statistics, and IRB compliance
  • Expertise in quantitative research methodology
  • Proficiency with SPSS and Excel
  • Familiarity with grant-funded programs
  • Interest in community-based participatory research
  • Excellent written and interpersonal skills
  • Attentiveness to detail
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • This is a grant funded position with the opportunity for ongoing renewal reviewed on an annual basis.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $65,000- $80,000, commensurate with experience.
