Overview
The Resident Assistant plays a vital role in providing support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities in a group home setting. This position is focused on fostering a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that promotes independence and personal growth. The Resident Assistant will work closely with residents to enhance their quality of life through daily activities, social interactions, and skill-building exercises.
Duties
- Assist residents with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Implement behavior management strategies to support residents in achieving their personal goals.
- Facilitate group activities that encourage social interaction and community engagement.
- Maintain a clean and organized living environment for all residents.
- Document resident progress and any significant changes in behavior or health status.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including social workers and healthcare professionals, to develop individualized care plans.
- Provide direct support to residents during emergencies and ensure adherence to safety protocols.
Skills
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or related fields such as social work or home care is preferred.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and systems relevant to group home settings.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with residents and their families.
- Proficiency in first aid and emergency response procedures.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team while also demonstrating independence in decision-making.
