Job Summary
The Residential Metronet Installer (1099 Contractor) is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber-optic internet, television, and phone services at customer residences. This role involves direct customer interaction, technical expertise, and ensuring high-quality service delivery in alignment with Metronet’s standards. No prior experience is required, as on-the-job training is provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Install fiber-optic cables, modems, routers, and other equipment in residential properties, ensuring proper setup and functionality of internet, TV, and phone services.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate effectively with customers to explain installation processes, answer questions, and provide basic training on equipment usage.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve technical issues related to connectivity, signal strength, or equipment malfunctions, ensuring minimal service disruption.
- Cable Management: Run, secure, and terminate fiber-optic and coaxial cables, adhering to safety and industry standards.
- Documentation: Accurately complete work orders and service reports using the Metronet mobile app on a personal cell phone.
Compensation
- Base Pay: $65 per completed job.
- Incentives: Additional pay based on a scale for equipment installed and footage of drop lines.
- Weekly Earnings: Typical weekly pay ranges from $700 to $1,000, with no cap on earnings potential.
- Payment Structure: Paid as a 1099 independent contractor; responsible for own taxes and insurance.
Qualifications
- must be able to pass a background check and entry drug test.
- Experience: No prior experience required; on-the-job training provided.
- Must have a working smartphone to run the Metronet mobile app for work orders and documentation.
- A personal vehicle is recommended for transporting equipment and traveling to job sites, but a company vehicle may be provided in some cases.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry a ladder (up to 50 pounds) and climb ladders.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces (e.g., crawlspaces, attics) and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Skills:
- Basic problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Ability to follow instructions and learn technical processes.
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record (if using a personal vehicle).
- Availability: Flexible schedule, with potential for evening and weekend work based on job assignments.
Working Conditions
- Primarily field-based, working at customer residences.
- Exposure to varying weather conditions, heights, and confined spaces.
- Use of personal or company-provided vehicle, personal ladder, and personal smartphone.
Requirements
- Provide own working smartphone with data plan for Metronet app usage.
- Ability to carry, set up, and climb a ladder (ladder provided).
- Willingness to enter crawlspaces and work at heights.
- Personal vehicle recommended; company vehicle may be provided based on availability.
