Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. Annualized pay may be pro-rated based on actual start date. This position is non-stipend eligible.


Position Summary


Under the direct supervision of the Director of Transportation, the Routing and Student Management Supervisor will oversee the department schedules for the Trip Request Specialist and Dispatcher. The Routing and Student Management Supervisor’s primary position is to oversee routing, trip requests, investigate bus complaints, communicate with parents, communicate with campus administration regarding student management, and work with the dispatcher to maintain the absentee logbook, plan and assign bus driver and bus monitor substitutes.


Minimum Requirements


  • High school diploma or GED equivalent recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency.
  • Must obtain the class “B” CDL license with all required endorsements within 180 calendar days of employment (Paid Training Provided).
  • Safe driving record verified by Texas Department of Public Safety (meets and maintains liability coverage eligibility).
  • Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual physical exam.
  • Must obtain and maintain School Bus Driver Certification (Texas Department of Public Safety).
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years school bus driving experience required, may be waived with other school transportation, routing or supervisory experience.
  • Experience with Transfinder school bus routing software.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of acceptable school transportation standards and operations knowledge of route scheduling principles and practices, and the ability to interpret district policy, local, state and federal laws and regulations related to pupil transportation.
  • Capable of responding in emergency situations and remaining calm under pressure.
  • Strong organization and computer skills - Google, MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Transfinder and group presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of roads, subdivisions, campuses, attendance zones and boundaries that make up Boerne ISD.
  • Well-developed communications and interpersonal skills, to include written and verbal skills and the ability to work cooperatively with people, lead personnel and the ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to conduct all activities in accordance with the highest ethical standards.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Essential Functions/Key Responsibilities


  • Develop, modify, and maintain accuracy of all general education, bilingual, McKinney Vento and special needs bus routes in accordance with rules and regulations of federal programs and the rules, regulations and laws by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas Education Agency.
  • Answer questions from district and school personnel regarding bus eligibility for students.
  • Coordinating and distributing all bus information, student rosters and schedules to district campuses and online resources.
  • Assist drivers, parents, and staff with routing issues.
  • Ensure student transportation routes and schedules comply with district policy.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of state directed student counts to determine average annual ridership.
  • Assist Director in projects and providing data to assist Director in determining the need for additional routes.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of the routing system utilized by the Transportation Department and analyze demographics pertaining to enrollment and ridership.
  • Maintain a thorough knowledge of attendance boundaries, city streets, and plans for future growth in the district.
  • Compile student counts and CTE, shuttle and route mileage for local and state reports.
  • Plan and coordinate after school tutoring and summer school programs.
  • Establish safest pickup-drop-off points for students.

  • Answers queries from district and school personnel regarding bus eligibility for students, as well as coordinating and distributing all bus information and schedules to district campuses.
  • Assist drivers, parents, and staff with routing issues in a calm, controlled and professional manner.
  • Ensure student transportation routes and schedules comply with district policy.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of state directed student counts to determine average annual ridership.
  • Operate a school bus when needed.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy.
  • Comply with all district routines and regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information.
  • Keep the Director informed and notified immediately of any accident or student safety concern.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Transportation Dispatcher and Trip Request Specialist.


Working Conditions

Tools/Equipment Used: Operate school bus; Two-way radio, PTT phone; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher.

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling.

Motion: Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching.

Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (under 45 pounds) on a daily basis.

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours and occasionally work prolonged hours.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions. Maintain emotional control under stress. Daily attendance and punctuality at work are essential functions of the job.
