Overview:
Roving Service Barrel Technician II needed to assist local Water and Sewer operations focusing on maintaining and operating residential water and sewer service connection including service barrel and exterior plumbing involved with these piped water and sewer residential connections.

This is a 3–4-week rotation on slope and 2-3 week off rotation schedule – On slope work schedule will be on a 10 hour, 7 days a week schedule with 8-hour weather, travel and quarantine days. Local housing will be provided with a daily per diem rate. Work will be on the slope and travel will be from/to Anchorage or Fairbanks at the beginning and end of rotations. This is considered critical workforce infrastructure and will abide by all state, borough and local worker travel mandates and safety orders.
  • Service Barrel Technician operates, maintains, trouble shoots, adjusts and repairs service connection barrels and exterior carrier piping all year round in arctic conditions.
  • Performs administrative tasks, such as, work orders, inventory, etc.
  • Will pre-assemble water service barrel manifold, replacement of flow switches and water circulation replacements.
  • Will inventory and submit purchase order requests for various water and sewer parts and materials.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on treatment plant, including all mechanical and electrical components of wastewater system under direction and supervision of lead operator and/or USS.
  • Reviews, creates, and updates Standard Operating Procedures for operating and maintenance procedures for Water Sewer Service Connections.
Responsibilities:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Commercial driver’s license, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the operation of computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation components and associated process equipment.
  • Skilled in the use of testing equipment used to perform routine mechanical, electrical and instrumentation preventative maintenance. • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, blueprints, symbols, charts and graphs.
  • Ability to identify and take corrective action on process upsets.
  • Ability to clean and calibrate probes used in process control.
  • Ability to identify all confined spaces.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Wear safety goggles
  • Lifting/Carrying frequently required up to 20lbs with occasionally lifting/carrying up to 50lbs
  • Pushing/Pulling frequently required up to 10lbs with occasionally pushing/pulling up to 50lbs
  • Safe operation of power tools

Work Environment:
  • Employee may be subject to environmental conditions such as cold; heat; exposed to noise; hazards; and/or close quarters. Applicant must be aware of work environment at all times
  • While performing the duties of this job; the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; and outside weather conditions including extreme Arctic winter conditions
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts; dust; fumes or airborne particles; smoke; or gases
  • The employee is frequently exposed to commercial solvents and chemicals
  • Must be able to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces, and up and down stairs frequently
  • Employee will be subject to confined areas, i.e., sewer manholes, water vaults, wastewater pits, and/or protected trenches
  • Working independently at remote work sites
  • Day shift and/or night shift rotations with long/irregular work hours
  • Lodging is via self-sufficient work camp accommodations with individual rooms, shared kitchen/refrigerator/freezer and multiple bathrooms/showers
  • Per diem of $70 per day is provided for meals
  • Work travel time begins/end from Anchorage, AK or Fairbanks, AK, maximum of 8 hours a travel day, allowing (3) fifty (50) pound bags • This position is rotational and will work in the North Slope Villages. Seven days a week, three weeks on and three weeks off.
