Description
Develops, implements, and monitors safety and security programs to ensure a safe and secure school environment; collaborates with school staff, students, families, public safety officials, and community members to implement programs and enforce school safety and security rules; oversees security staff.
Qualifications
Required
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in law enforcement, or a related field.

Three (3) years of experience in safety and security.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Must successfully complete compulsory certification training approved by the Virginia Center for School Safety within sixty (60) days of hire and renew certification annually.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
- Knowledge of local, county, and state rules and regulations requiring an alcohol-, drug-, weapons- and tobacco-free environment.
- Knowledge regarding student safety and conduct.
- Ability to enforce those regulations.
- Ability to relate to, communicate with, and supervise staff in order to help establish and maintain an appropriate and safe school environment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, staff, families, and the public.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience.
