DESCRIPTION

This position involves very responsible clinical counseling or social work performed by a highly skilled clinician. The employee is expected to provide highly skilled therapeutic services for children, adolescents, and families to address difficult or complex problems requiring behavioral health intervention.
Work involves direct care services that includes intake, screening, assessment, diagnosis, developing treatment/rehabilitation plans, conducting individual and group counseling and applying various therapeutic interventions. Additionally, the School Based Clinician will provide in classroom observation of students, provide feedback to teachers and school administrators as needed, provide in classroom intervention, participate in parent teacher conferences and participate in development of individualized education plans. The employee exercises considerable professional initiative and judgment. Work is under the general review of an administrative superior, leaving considerable latitude for independent judgment and discretion in accordance with agency policies. Provisionally licensed professionals receive professional clinical supervision from a licensed professional counselor or licensed clinical social worker.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
Work may include but is not limited to the following examples:
  • Provides culturally sensitive, professional therapeutic services in accordance with professional licensing standards and agency policies.
  • Conducts highly skilled screenings, assessments, treatment interventions; develops treatment/rehabilitation plans; conducts individual and group counseling; makes diagnoses; and provides other advanced clinical counseling or social work services for consumers who have complex behavioral problems.
  • Develops and maintains effective professional rapport and therapeutic relationships with consumers and staff/administration within Saint Joseph School District.
  • Maintains timely, legible, clear, concise, and well-organized records of services provided. Documents the results of intakes, screenings, and assessments; prepares and updates treatment plans; records notes of consumer participation and progress in therapeutic services. Prepares reports, progress notes, discharge summaries and other documents needed to satisfy professional and payer requirements, by using collaborative documentation.
  • Provides appropriate levels of therapeutic services in accordance with professional standards, and agency and payer requirements.
  • Must be able to use the agency electronic medical record program for all documentation. Is required to use collaborative documentation.
  • Conducts in classroom observation and provides clinical feedback to teachers/administrators/families as needed; Also conducts in classroom intervention.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of consumer information.
  • Participates in quality improvement processes, staff meetings, staff training, consumer staffing's and case reviews.
  • Adheres to established professional ethical and behavioral standards of conduct.
  • Dresses in appropriate business attire; is well groomed and professional in appearance.
  • Performs other related work as assigned
EXAMPLES OF KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of counseling or social work theories, practices, techniques, and ethics as they apply to services for individuals with complex behavioral problems, emotional disturbances, and/or mental illness.
Thorough knowledge of individual behavior and group dynamics, and intervention strategies.
Thorough knowledge of the social effects of various mental and emotional problems on individuals, their families, and the community.
Considerable knowledge of the requirements of state and federal law and professional requirements pertaining to the delivery of counseling or social work services.
Considerable knowledge of crisis intervention theory and practice and the ability to make decisions in crisis situations.
Working knowledge of available community resources.
Skill in clinical assessment, problem solving, and decision making including crisis.
Ability to read, comprehend, and speak in the English language.
Ability to express ideas clearly; to communicate effectively, orally, and in writing.
Ability to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of various counseling or social work treatment procedures and practices.
Ability to apply counseling or social work techniques and practices in a professional counseling setting.
Ability to act decisively when necessary to protect and assist consumers.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, cooperative working relationships with professional staff, and consumers and their families.
Ability to maintain clinical records and prepare related reports.
Ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
Ability to recognize potential ethical problems and address in ethical manner.
Ability to plan and organize working time effectively.
Ability to perform with autonomy or with minimum direction.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

The following education and experience qualifications are the minimum requirement used to admit or reject applicants for consideration.
  • Master of Social Work, Psychology or closely related field as stipulated by Missouri definition as a Qualified Mental Health Professional
  • Must be able to obtain a clinical license and agree to pursue appropriate clinical license. The candidate need not have started on pursuit of the clinical license prior to hire.

NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATION

Must successfully pass a background screening in accordance with 9 CSR 10-5.190.
Possesses a valid driver’s license and is, and remains insurable, under Family Guidance Center automobile liability insurance.
