School Social Worker assists students, families, and school in the reduction of social, emotional and environmental barriers to learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct services to K-12 students requiring social/emotional/behavioral supports.
- Have a passion for working with Special Education students (including those with intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, learning disabilities, ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, Depression, Conduct Disorders, etc.)
- Provide social/emotional skill building, interventions, and psychoeducation Social Emotional Lessons (SEL) in brief understandable segments to individual Special Education students or in small 2-4 person groups..
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings, 504 meetings, and Individual Education Plan meetings (IEP’s).
- Reduce barriers to learning by providing social/emotional tools including coping tools, self-regulation techniques, etc.
- Assess students Present Levels of Functioning and contribute social/emotional Goals to IEP’s annually.
- Advocate for student’s Social/Emotional needs to improve academic performance and well-being in school.
- Develop and maintain relationships with other school personnel, students, and their families to support the student.
- Respond to referrals from school staff/parents by providing assessment and direct services.
- Consult with teachers, administrators and other school personnel to identify student needs.
- Complete BioPsychoSocial assessments and/or Social Emotional Evaluations for students to determine needed services.
- Assist in developing positive behavioral supports and interventions strategies for students.
- Provide “as needed” support and/or crisis support to optimize student success in the educational setting.
- Provide quality Clinical documentation of each student support session for timely billing purposes.
- Provide crisis intervention support, restorative conversations and conflict resolution.
- Establish and maintain communication with parents regarding student academic, social/emotional and behavioral progress.
- Assess student progress towards goals and communicate in writing to staff and caregivers every 9 weeks.
- Assess the quality and effectiveness of social emotional services.
- Accesses clinical social work consultation and support from an LCSW/LISW level 3 school social worker.
- Complies with the Code of Ethics and Standards for School Social Work Services from the National Association of Social Workers.

- Interpersonal skills with diverse populations and ability to practice in a culturally competent manner in-person and on the telephone.
- Ability to meet deadlines and coordinate work and responsibilities within the schedule of other staff.
- Knowledge of school community, needs of student populations, and Special Education laws and regulations.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).
- Active valid Licensure by Public Education Department (NM State Board of Education) in Social Work.
- Active valid Licensure by the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Board (NM Board of Social Work Examiners
- Able to obtain Medicaid Provider Number and NPI.
