If this sounds like you, Montgomery Parks is the place you want to be! We are currently seeking a Seasonal Forest Preschool Teacher for Black Hill Discovery Center, located in Boyds, Maryland.
This position is an 8-10 hour per week role starting in September 2025 until mid-December and then resuming in February through early May. Typical work hours of 8am-12:30pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays. There will also be hours scheduled ahead of each season for staff training. This position has the potential for additional, non-preschool hours, depending on the candidate’s skills, interests, and availability.
Black Hill Discovery Center is situated in Black Hill Regional Park, which is owned and operated by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission in Montgomery County, Maryland. Black Hill Discovery Center provides interpretive programming for the public, schools, and special groups. BHDC specializes in early childhood education, field trips, summer camps, kayaking and pontoon boat programs, sustainable practices, and community building. The SEED Classroom is a net-zero energy, green building designed for small-group programs.

Examples of important duties:
Assists lead preschool teacher in nature and play-based early childhood education program for children ages 3 ½ to 6 years. Takes supportive role in lesson delivery, curriculum development, and behavior modification.
Ensures the safety and well-being of students in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.
Models a healthy relationship with and curiosity for the natural world.
Contributes to the development and review of policies and procedures as needed.

Collaborative with a strong work ethic, cooperative spirit, and excellent communication skills.
Experience working with young children.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Degree in Early Childhood Education, Natural/Environmental Sciences, or a related field either earned or in progress.
Experience working with children.
Willingness to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
Willingness to be CPR/First Aid certified and to complete a Child Protective Service (CPS) background check.
Must be at least 18 years old.
Supplemental Information
Working conditions:
Primarily works outside in all types of weather and in varying terrains. Must be able to walk 1-2 miles per shift.
A criminal background investigation will be completed prior to hire.
May be subject to medical, drug and alcohol testing.
