Job Overview
The Seasonal Groundskeeper is responsible for performing general maintenance and landscaping duties to ensure the upkeep, cleanliness, and safety of the organization's outdoor facilities and grounds. This temporary role is typically active during the spring, summer, and early fall seasons.
Responsibilities
- Perform lawn care tasks including mowing, edging, trimming, aerating, and watering.
- Maintain flower beds, shrubs, and trees through planting, pruning, weeding, and mulching.
- Remove litter, leaves, and other debris from grounds, parking lots, sidewalks, and outdoor common areas.
- Operate and maintain landscaping tools and machinery such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and edgers.
- Assist with irrigation systems and monitor for leaks or malfunctions.
- Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and other treatments as needed and in compliance with safety regulations.
- Support seasonal setup and takedown of outdoor furniture, signage, and event equipment.
- Report maintenance issues, vandalism, or safety hazards to the supervisor promptly.
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe and efficient manner, following established procedures and safety standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education/ Licensure/ Certification Requirements:
- Must be 16+ years old.
- Approved background study.
- Valid Minnesota Driver’s License with acceptable record required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Previous groundskeeping, landscaping, or outdoor maintenance experience is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping tools, machinery, and outdoor maintenance techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Physical stamina to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor Environment: Frequent exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, rain, wind, and cold.
- Physical Demands: Regular lifting (up to 50 lbs), bending, stooping, kneeling, walking, and standing for extended periods.
- Manual Labor: Hands-on work with landscaping tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Exposure to Elements: Contact with soil, plants, pollen, chemicals (fertilizers/pesticides), and insects.
- Noise Levels: Moderate to loud, due to operation of power equipment such as mowers and blowers.
