Job Description
The Shift Engineer is responsible for performing maintenance and repairs to the building, guest rooms, back-of-house, and equipment throughout the property. This position ensures the consistent upkeep of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other building systems to ensure safety, efficiency, and a luxury environment for guests and colleagues.
This full-time position has an hourly compensation of $35.00 an hour.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Respond to guest room maintenance requests in a timely and professional manner.
Perform routine preventive maintenance on all mechanical equipment including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, elevators, and fire safety systems.
Maintain tools, equipment, and engineering spaces in safe and operational condition.
Complete daily shift reports and communicate work orders with the engineering team.
Assist with setup and breakdown of event spaces and support special project work.
Monitor BMS and respond to equipment alerts or alarms promptly.
Assist contractors and vendors during scheduled repairs and inspections.
Support efforts to maintain DOH, OSHA, and local compliance standards.
Maintain cleanliness and safety of the engineering shop and all mechanical areas.
Rotate on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies as required.
Qualifications
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in hotel engineering or facilities maintenance.
Technical training or certification in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical preferred.
Knowledge of building systems, life safety, and preventative maintenance techniques.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and operate maintenance equipment safely.
Working knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines and NYC building codes.
Ability to read blueprints, equipment manuals, and safety documents.
