We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Solar Electrical Estimator to support our growing Solar EPC business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing electrical plans for solar projects and preparing accurate cost estimates.
Job Duties:
- The ability to work proficiently and autonomously on assigned projects, and working collaboratively with other team members.
- Prepares work to be estimated by gathering project requirements, electrical drawings, specifications, and related documents.
- Prepare a detailed estimate including a complete and accurate project bill of materials
- Quantify labor, materials, subcontractor and equipment needs by performing takeoffs from design drawings, factoring in labor rates, productivity and material availability.
- Coordinate closely with internal departments, such as pre-construction, project management, field operations and accounting.
- Proficient knowledge in ConEst or other type electronic pricing software(s) to compute costs for labor, material, and time requirements.
- Determines the potential profitability of projects to assist management in making sound bidding decisions; Provides viable solutions to increase project profitability.
- Complete and submit competitive project bids in accordance with established guidelines.
- Regularly update cost databases to accurately reflect fluctuating material and labor costs.
Skills / Experience:
- Understands solar PV system components, NEC, NFPA, UL and ISA, as related to design and documentation
- Area classification requirements as related to design and documentation
- Wiring techniques, color-coding, sizing and de-rating, and insulation classifications
- Able to read and interpret one-line diagrams, schematics, P&IDs, layout drawings and wiring diagrams and modify them for optimization
- Proficient in computer software including MS Office and ConEst estimating software (or further type estimating software)
- Ability to evaluate estimating software unit assemblies adding or deleting items as appropriate for each specific project.
Requirements:
- 3+ years of solar electrical estimating experience
- Hands-on electrical construction experience a plus
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, preferred but not required
- The ability to interpret all blueprints drawings (not just electrical)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
