Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.
The Role
We are on a mission to make commerce easy and accessible for businesses of all sizes. The Monetization team plays a critical role in this mission by increasing the adoption and utilization of Square’s products. Whether it’s through smarter pricing experiences, plan comparisons, or in-app upgrade paths, our work helps Sellers grow and enables success in driving business outcomes.
As a Staff Engineer, you’d lead initiatives to build elegant, user-friendly, and accessible experiences that directly influence product adoption and monetization. You’ll join a thoughtful and collaborative team where product, data, design, and engineering work closely to deliver high impact outcomes. You’ll lead the charge in crafting reusable components, driving architectural decisions, and mentoring others. You’ll have the opportunity to directly influence pricing strategy, drive meaningful business outcomes, set the standards for technical excellence and help scale a world-class frontend engineering culture. This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys writing code, building elegant and impactful user experiences, and partnering closely with product, design, and other teams to bring new experiences to life.

- Lead critical engineering initiatives that impact product monetization, conversion, and feature adoption
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to rapidly prototype and iterate on ongoing initiatives
- Define the technical strategy and raise the standards on best practices across front-end architecture, performance, accessibility, testing and maintainability
- Explore and implement emerging technologies, including AI-assisted automations to enhance our development workflows
- Mentor engineers across the organization, evolving and instilling a culture of high quality and high velocity work leading by example

- Deep expertise in React and modern frameworks - the kind of knowledge that comes from building and maintaining large-scale React applications
- Significant experience working with component libraries and design systems (you’ve worked to maintain an existing one and/or helped build one from the ground up)
- Experience building high-quality, production-level interfaces at scale
- Proven record of successfully delivering large projects and large teams from start to finish with strong collaboration, communication, and ownership
- Strong experience working cross-functionally with multiple stakeholders

- Understanding of business and growth metrics, with the ability to translate them into UX and engineering strategies.
- Strong commitment to web accessibility and experience implementing accessibility guidelines in applications
- Familiarity with GraphQL, Redux (or similar state management libraries), and design systems like Storybook
- Previous work in SaaS, subscription, or pricing applications
