Role description:
Arcadis is searching for a Staff Water Engineer to support and grow our Water team in White Plain, NY/New York City, NY. This candidate will use their expertise and technical knowledge to deliver design work and design services during construction for water/wastewater clients in New York and across North America.
Role accountabilities:
As a Staff Water Engineer, you will support professional engineering services during construction, which includes but is not limited to reviewing submittals and shop drawings, responding to requests for information (RFIs),and requests for clarification (RFCs), managing project closeouts and construction observation. Managing tasks as a staff water engineer involves completing allocated activities to meet budget, timeframe, and quality objectives while meeting or exceeding client expectations. You will carry out investigations and analyses to support the development of technical and constructable solutions. In addition, you will be responsible for evaluating, planning, designing, and supporting the management of projects related to water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, which includes pipelines, treatment, and pumping facilities. You will exercise your judgment on the details of work and make preliminary selections and adaptations of engineering alternatives. Your role involves completing technical and report writing tasks with guidance from more senior team members. You will also perform fieldwork activities such as site visits, construction inspections, asset inventory, technology evaluations, and gathering plant operations information for process troubleshooting and optimization.
Your responsibilities also include preparing documentation and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with Arcadis requirements and relevant national standards and codes of practice. You will liaise with Project Managers, Team Leaders, and clients to ensure effective communication on project matters. Contributing to the resolution of technical issues on projects and providing technical guidance to other team members is crucial. You will collaborate with other design disciplines to ensure the integrity of the overall design or solution and review completed engineering work to ensure it meets specified standards. Furthermore, you will further develop your understanding of the services delivered by Arcadis, the client’s business, and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and develop personal credibility in the industry.
Skills and Abilities:
- Detail oriented with knowledge of relevant national standards and codes of practice.
- Ability to review and respond to contractor questions.
- Ability to provide technical guidance.
- Advanced research, data gathering, technical writing and analysis skills.
- Developing skills including technical, project management, relationship management, sector expertise and commercial awareness,
- Work independently. Self-starter.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, time management and communication skills.
This can probably be worded better but I wanted to emphasize the need to work indirectly with contractors.
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil, Environmental, Construction, or other related field of engineering.
- Valid driver's license with the ability to commute to project sites.
- Minimum 7 years’ of experience in engineering.
Preferred Skills:
- EIT certification OR PE license.
- Previous field experience, and design experience.
- Previous experience working with NYCDEP and other New York City Agencies as well as other local New York area projects.

We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $125,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
