Job DescriptionSummary:

We are seeking a qualified Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) for a 13-week contract assignment. The position offers night shifts with consistent block scheduling, providing stability throughout the assignment period. First-time travelers are welcome, but applicants must be highly capable and confident in independent work with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities:

• Perform decontamination, disinfection, preparation, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical equipment.
• Assemble and inspect instrument trays and sets per procedural requirements.
• Operate washers, disinfectors, and sterilizers, including high-level disinfection (HLD) and Immediate-Use Steam Sterilization (IUSS).
• Follow proper wrapping procedures using biological and chemical indicators for sterilization monitoring.
• Maintain accurate documentation for sterilization processes and equipment tracking.
• Ensure adherence to infection prevention, equipment care, and regulatory standards.
• Process specialty equipment for General Surgery, ENT, Orthopedics, OB/GYN, Plastics, and Urology.

Key Requirements:

• Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year of Sterile Processing Technician experience
• First-Time Travelers: Accepted
• Independent Work Capability: Required – must function confidently without direct supervision
• Charting System: Epic – Required
• Floating: No
• On-Call: No
• Weekends: No
• 48-Hour Approval: Not permitted
• Scheduling: Staff work on a 4-week schedule block; consistent shifts expected throughout the contract

QualificationsEducation:

• Completion of a Sterile Processing Technician training program or equivalent hospital-based training.

Licenses/Certifications:

• CBSPD – Preferred
• IAHCSMM/HSPA – Preferred
• Certification not required but strongly preferred.

SkillsWork Settings:

• Acute Hospital OR
• Central Sterile Processing Department

Decontamination & Disinfection:

• Use of washers/sterilizers
• High-Level Disinfection (HLD)
• Cleaning of equipment (e.g., crash carts, PCA/IV pumps)

Preparation & Handling:

• Case cart preparation
• Proper selection and wrapping of materials
• Sterilization wrapping procedures

Processing:

• Instrument set/tray assembly
• Equipment documentation and tracking

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
