The Role: Middle School Music Teacher
We are seeking a passionate and creative Middle School Music Teacher to join our team for the 2025–2026 school year. This is a unique opportunity to help grow Amani’s music program and provide students with a joyful, engaging, and well-rounded arts education.
Music teachers at Amani are valued members of the school community who inspire students to explore music through performance, composition, and appreciation.
You will:
- Design and deliver standards-aligned general music instruction for students in grades 5–8
- Plan and lead engaging lessons that incorporate music theory, history, and performance across a variety of genres and cultures
- Provide students with opportunities to explore instruments, vocal training, and ensemble work
- Foster creativity, confidence, and collaboration through music-based projects and performances
- Support schoolwide events such as concerts, talent shows, and assemblies
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that supports student growth and artistic expression
- Collaborate with colleagues, families, and administrators to support the whole child
- Participate in data-driven planning, weekly professional development, and community-building activities
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain lesson plans, materials, and resources for in-person and remote instruction
- Incorporate technology tools (Google Suite, Google Classroom, music software) into instruction
- Track and assess student progress using standards-aligned rubrics and performance assessments
- Set clear behavioral and academic expectations in alignment with Amani’s core values
- Participate in staff orientation and training in August
Schedule and Location
- School day: 7:30 AM–4:00 PM, Monday through Friday
- School year: Second week of August through end of June
- Location: On-site in Mount Vernon, NY
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field
- NYS Teaching Certification in Music (preferred)
- Experience teaching middle school students in a school setting
- Proficiency with Google Suite and music education tools
- Passion for equity in education and culturally responsive teaching
