Foreman Job Description – Rambling Man Logistics

The Foreman is the key operational leader responsible for ensuring daily jobsite execution, crew leadership, scheduling, compliance, and performance standards. This role replaces the day-to-day responsibilities of the owner and serves as a team-first, boots-on-the-ground operations manager with high standards, initiative, and the ability to manage people and processes effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations

● Arrive before the crew every day to start the trucks, confirm job details, and note who is late. Ensure that all materials are either being prepped or already prepped before crews leave the warehouse.

● Assign crew roles based on skills and job requirements. AKA, know your teams, and know them well. This will be a key factor to whether jobs succeed or fail.

● To ensure the roles for each job is clear, gather everyone and assign roles out loud. Make sure these roles are clear and understood by all crew members before they depart. Give friendly reminders of standards while everyone is gathered.

● Remind all crew members who the key point of reference is for team members and customers if questions arise. It is always the Team Lead, or Second in Command if the Team Lead is busy.

● Always be prepared to drive to job sites when crews are in trouble to help finish jobs or solve issues.

● When you arrive, ensure that trucks were properly cleaned, blankets were folded, back of trucks were cleaned out, straps were untangled and hung properly on the side walls, and everything was left in an organized manner.

● Ensure all trucks are filled up after every job to prepare for the following day.

● Ensure all permanent materials are accounted for (hand trucks, straps, dollys, etc).

Scheduling

● Maintain the crew calendar (Outlook) and a physical scheduling book for time-off requests. The request book should remain in the office at all times. Requests after the weekly schedule is made will not be honored.

● Coordinate via group text every afternoon for the following day's job assignments. Provide description of the job and the time everyone is expected at the warehouse.

● Foreman schedule: Monday to Friday, 6:30 AM (can vary) – 3:30 PM. If all responsibilities are handled by 3:30 PM, you may go home. You are not “off the clock” until all jobs are completed for the day, but you are allowed to essentially work from home as needed after 3:30 PM if all on site responsibilities are handled. It is your job to ensure things are running smoothly, even when moves end at night.

Leadership & Meetings

● Lead weekly meetings to review what went well, discuss what improvements need to be made, and give friendly reminders about company policy (i.e. call customers with ETA, fill trucks before parking them at the end of day, bring surplus materials, mattress bags, do not drag furniture on floors, call immediately if things go wrong, ask customers to leave Google review if everything goes well, etc.)

Training & Onboarding

● Oversee onboarding and hands-on training for all new hires. This includes initial interviews.

● Evaluate new hires within the first week and provide additional training to ensure development is in line with company standards.

Customer Reviews & Feedback

● Encourage and track Google reviews. Make sure the teams who are bringing in the most reviews are rewarded and recognized. Continually encourage all teams to ask for a review.

● Maintain team accountability for professionalism and customer satisfaction. Track customer complaints and track why/who is causing them. Schedule one-on-one or give points as needed for complaints.

Team Culture & Morale

● Promote a culture of respect, accountability, and excellence. This starts with YOU. You are now the top chain of command with the exception of Jordan. Employees are expected to respect your authority and listen to all your directions without question, within reason. Respect yourself, respect our employees, and hold yourself to every standard you will hold them to. Lead by example, always.

● Recognize high-performing crew members regularly. Always reward and praise good performance.

Discipline

● Enforce a points-based disciplinary system. It is your job to respectfully and discreetly let individuals know when they receive a point. If you are giving an entire team a point for a group mistake, you can let them know in the group text thread.

● Track attendance, performance, and policy violations. Keep up with how many points each team member has and privately text them biweekly so they can keep up with where they stand.

Hiring & Firing

● Proactively identify staffing needs. Signs we may need to hire: when crew members are getting little to no time off, when there is any OT, if there are team member(s) who are close to losing employment, etc.

● Conduct interviews, make hiring decisions, and manage terminations.

Customer Communication

● Notify customers promptly if delays arise. Your job is to remain on top of crew progress from time of arrival at the warehouse, to when they finish the job.

● Coordinate with the team lead for ETA communication. Ensure the Team Lead is properly communicating time of arrivals with customers.

Company Compliance

● Ensure daily checklists are completed and signed by both Team Lead and Second-in-Command. Team Lead should be sending photos of the checklist being signed to ensure basic assignments are being completed. This will ensure there are no minor slip ups and that standards remain strong on every job.

● Maintain high standards for safety, appearance, and professionalism. Ensure that employees are showing up wearing the proper attire. For packing jobs, team members need to wear polos. Again, lead by example with appearance and professionalism in all that you do.

Truck & Equipment Maintenance

● Schedule and document oil changes and regular maintenance.

● Ensure all trucks are clean and stocked daily. Every team member is expected to pick up after themselves. It is your job to ensure this happens and to let crew members know when they are leaving trash in the truck. It is up to your discretion to apply points for violating this as needed.

Operational Support

● Fill in on jobs when needed when team members are sick, need scheduled days off, or no call no shows.

● Check in mid-day with Team Leads and offer support if necessary. You should always know where our team stands on a job.

Finance Handling

● Take all cash payments to the bank and confirm deposit receipts. Put all receipts in the desk for Jordan.
