BASIC FUNCTION

The Technology Integration Specialist is responsible to provide teacher leadership and support in the implementation of equitable programs to adopt and sustain best practice educational technology integration and instruction across the District. Working as a member of the Learning Technologies workgroup in the IT Department, the position coordinates IT resources to plan, develop, and implement classroom-related technology integration initiatives with related professional development activities furthering District strategic goals.

This position works collaboratively with administrators, TOSAs, teachers, teacher-librarians, students, and central department stakeholders to support professional development and the integration of technology and curriculum in both leadership and classroom settings across all schools in the district. This position plans, coordinates, and prioritizes the design and evaluation of innovative instruction to drive outcomes for successful student learning. The Learning Technologies team focuses to enhance student learning by leading the promotion of best practices, providing support for the increase in school staff capacity to effectively use education technology.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Coordinate the development and delivery of research-based professional development in the instructional use of technology for modern skills in partnership with instructional leadership, including the following practices.

Co-teaching with staff and demonstrating the use of technology and data to improve learning

Increasing a school’s capacity to effectively use educational technology to enhance student learning through sustained mentoring relationships with classroom staff

Providing sustained, job-embedded professional development and feedback for staff

Promoting and modeling the value of professional learning networks through the establishment of learning communities in the district

Monitoring of ongoing technology learning needs through proactive information gathering and analysis

Helping educators ask the right questions about technology

Advocate for and support the District's professional learning management system, enterprise collaboration tools such as Google Education Suite, and related education technology in partnership with key District stakeholders, including Teaching and Learning and HR department leaders.

Coordinate education technology integration projects with schools, departments and key stakeholders in support of the District's strategic plan, assisting in planning for effective implementation of curriculum and aligning curriculum standards and materials with digital tools; provide input and support in curriculum adoption efforts so that technology offerings align with curriculum.

Seek and maintain current knowledge of innovative and emerging technologies and instructional best practices in dedication to continuous improvement of professional practice; Continually search for, evaluate, and implement the use of new instructional tools, knowledge, and resources; constantly update knowledge through a variety of sources; participate in district, state and regional learning technology networks and organizations and collaborate with other regional leaders.

Serve as a member of the IT team to coordinate and consult on District and department initiatives; and work closely with cross-functional IT teams to assist in the creation of policies and effect technology changes.

Work cooperatively as a member of the Learning Technologies team to achieve and maintain program consistency; Participate in growth opportunities including formal professional development, team-building, cross-training, and goal-setting.

Perform other reasonably related tasks as assigned (which may require flexible workday hours).

Education, Training, and Experience:

Is typically obtained through the completion of the equivalent to graduation from high school with additional college-level coursework or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Education, Education, or a closely related field and a minimum of two (2) years of experience developing and delivering technology training to adult learners is required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Experience with technology-enhanced instruction, K-12 web-based application software, and curriculum integration. An active teaching license and classroom experience, working in a school district in a richly diverse community are preferred. Any other combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.

Special Requirements:

At times, this position may require the use of a personal automobile and possession of a valid Class C Oregon driver’s license. Positions in this classification may require occasional evening and weekend participation at workshops, meetings, District events, and training activities.

Salary Grade and Compensation:

  • Work Year: This position has a 260 work year schedule.
  • Salary: Grade 29 - $88,243 - $105,366

Portland Public Schools is a public employer and participates in the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS/OPSRP). Eligible employees are required by statute to contribute 6% of salary on a pre-tax basis to OPSRP/IAP, after serving six months under a PERS employer.
