Technical Lead, Software Development Overview:

The Technical Lead, Software Development is responsible for ensuring that the development team has appropriate technical direction and guidance to ensure success. They provide technical oversight for development efforts, ensuring outcomes that align to commercial , operational, and technical expectations. They work in advance of the development roadmap conducting technical investigations for upcoming projects, documenting approach, design and associated application changes. Acting as an agent of collaboration and innovation within the development team and Information Technology division is a key attribute of this position. This role also involves hands-on development as needed, leading code review, mentoring of the development team, and ensuring alignment with project outcomes and timelines.

This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, solve complex issues, and contribute to the development of innovative software solutions.

Essential Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Product Owners, Project Managers, and other business stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions
  • Conduct technical investigations for new projects or features, identifying potential challenges.
  • Document technical approaches, application changes, and designs.
  • Collaborate with the application architect on larger efforts to develop or align with existing design patterns.
  • Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, implementation, testing and deployment.
  • Provide daily technical guidance and mentoring to the development team, fostering growth and technical excellence.
  • Perform hands-on development.
  • Lead the PR process, review code, and ensure adherence to best practices and standards.
  • Act as the technical lead on projects, ensuring workstreams align with project or feature outcomes and timelines.
  • Maintain a stable and available environment following standard procedures for testing and deployment, including application support and participation in on-call rotations.
  • Collaborate with development team and other IT team members to drive innovation, share knowledge, review code, and resolve technical challenges.
  • Stay up to date with the latest technologies, tools, and best practices in software development.
  • Proactively identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and optimization, including software development practices
  • Adhere to and promote best practices, coding standards, and security policies.
  • Participate in agile ceremonies supporting the software development lifecycle.
  • Remain current with the latest Sun Country IT system/services/applications information, changes, and updates.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of experience in software development, with demonstrated leadership skills and progressively increasing responsibilities, including but not limited to roles such as development lead.
  • Proficiency in technical stack defined for job area. Will vary for Commercial IT, Operational IT or Analytics and will be elaborated for specific job postings.
  • 5+ years with cloud computing platforms
  • Expertise with CI/CD, version control systems, testing frameworks and/or testing best practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to conduct technical investigations
  • Experience leading projects from start to finish
  • Excellent documentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical approaches and designs
  • Experience collaborating with architects and developing design patterns
  • Experience mentoring or supervising others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills and a self-motivated attitude, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Highly detail-oriented

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
  • Experience in travel or aviation-related industry

Compensation:

$120,000.00-140,000.00. This is the base compensation hiring range for this role.

Classification:

Full-time, Exempt

Working Location:

Hybrid - Minneapolis, MN

Supervisory Responsibility:

Overseeing developers that are a mix of internal employees and contractors.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets.
