Position Summary:
The Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable transportation of approximately 800 students across 17 regional buses and 8 specialized vans. This role involves collaboration with transportation vendors, oversight of routing, compliance with state and federal regulations, and effective communication with families and school staff. The manager also ensures appropriate after-hours student supervision when necessary and may need to respond to early morning or late evening calls related to school closures or urgent transportation matters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with transportation vendors to develop and adjust bus routes and schedules, ensuring optimal efficiency and safety.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the school, families, and transportation providers, addressing concerns and facilitating effective communication.
- Monitor vendor performance to ensure adherence to safety standards, timeliness, and contractual obligations.
- Manage transportation applications and maintain accurate records of student assignments and route information.
- Coordinate transportation for special programs, field trips, and extracurricular activities.
- Investigate and resolve transportation-related incidents or complaints.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal transportation regulations.
- Work with special education staff to accommodate students with IEPs or 504 plans.
- Oversee after-hours student supervision protocols, ensuring designated staff are supported and stepping in when necessary.
- Assist in the development and monitoring of the transportation budget.
- Prepare reports and updates for district leadership as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; equivalent relevant experience considered.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or school operations.
- Familiarity with routing software (e.g., Transfinder, Edulog) preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
- Experience managing vendor relationships and service contracts.
- Knowledge of Massachusetts student transportation regulations preferred.
- Bilingual skills are a plus.
Working Conditions:
- Full-time, year-round position based on-site.
- Flexibility required for occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends to support transportation needs, school events, or emergencies.
- While not expected to be on-site daily outside of regular hours, the Transportation Manager provides oversight of after-hours student supervision and may be called upon to cover on rare occasions.
- The role may require responding to early morning or late evening phone calls regarding weather-related closures or urgent transportation concerns.
- Light travel between school buildings or vendor locations may be required.

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
