The Planner I - Transportation role involves specialized work related to Transportation impacts of Development Permit applications.

Essential Job Functions

  • Reviews and performs interdepartmental coordination of development applications.
  • Researches issues related to planning, property ownership, zoning history, and land use.
  • Reviews and analyzes development applications for compliance with applicable laws and ordinances.
  • Reviews correspondence and recommendations from the Planning Commission and Board of County Commissioners.
  • Originates technical review comments based on the knowledge required below.
  • Assists with questions and/or problems related to knowledge required below.
  • Gives instructions on practice/procedures, both written and verbal.
  • Works with developers, engineers, attorneys, planners, and other interested parties on procedural and/or technical questions concerning development issues.
  • Interacts with public relating to interpretation of development regulations.
  • Responds to public concerns and requests for information pertaining to development.
  • Other related work as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Zoning Standards.
  • Knowledge of Subdivision and Platting Standards.
  • Knowledge of Development Review Permit Types and Applications.
  • Knowledge of principles and accepted practices of transportation planning.
  • Knowledge of methods of collection and analysis of traffic/planning data.
  • Knowledge of preparation of transportation impact studies.
  • Ability to read and understand site related transportation impact studies.
  • Ability to present ideas and findings clearly and concisely in both written and oral form to community-at-large, Board members, stakeholders and other audiences.
  • Skills related to the use of computers and related software i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read for comprehension.
  • Ability to read and interpret aerial photos and maps.
  • Ability to meet and work with the public.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to present findings in written, oral, and graphic form.

Minimum Requirements

PHYSICAL SKILLS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in traffic/transportation planning or a related field.

LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.
