Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Knowledge of Intermediate Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety policy and practices
- Experience in one of the following: shoulder and ditch maintenance, pipe installation or asphalt patching
- Experience in snow and ice removal operations
- Experience in the operation of at least 2 pieces of the following equipment: backhoe, tandem dump truck, motor grader, front end loader, forklift, force feed loader, asphalt distributor, crack sealing machine, track excavator, skid steer or sweeper.
Ability to withstand extreme weather and terrain conditions while performing duties. Employee must have the ability to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and work in extreme temperature conditions. Ability to work in close proximity of high volumes of traffic and heavy construction equipment. The selected candidate must be able to legally operate CDL required equipment/trucks with both manual and automatic transmissions at the time of hire or within 360 days of hire date. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. As a condition of employment, a release form (ALCDRG-01) and a background statement (ALCDRG-06) must be completed and signed allowing the NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol testing. Employee must have the ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development diploma and (5) five years of experience operating equipment directly related to the area of specialization; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Safety toe footwear required.
