GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB
TheUpward Bound Instructor isresponsible forproviding challenging academic instruction and tutoring services to project participants during the Academic Year Component and six week Summer Residential Component.The Instructor/Tutor reports to the Director and Academic Coordinator of Upward Bound.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Confer with supervisor to discuss program goals and course objectives;
- Instruct high school students in conjunction with state standards;
- Develop and deliver a curriculum that addresses course objectives in Math, Science, English, Foreign Language, Current Affairs, Art, Dance, Music, Communication, Bridge to College, etc.
- Utilize innovative classroom techniques and methodologies that involve students in challenging learning opportunities;
- Report to and collaborate with the Director and Academic Coordinator;
- Network with University and community resources to include creative, active-learning experiences;
- Provide feedback to students that will enhance their academic growth;
- Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits, including meeting required deadlines, attending staff meetings as scheduled, and implementing instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences;
- Monitorandreportstudentattendance;
- Refer to the supervisor those students failing to meet adequate progress;
- Complete summative evaluations highlighting students' strengths and needs;
- Submit curriculum evaluation to improve program services.
Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree is required. Ability to develop innovative curriculum in line with course objectives, expertise in academic area and use of technology in classroom. Ability to relate with participants with diverse backgrounds and ability to motivate students toward academic endeavors. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required. The equivalent combination of education and related work experience may be considered.
