URM Bridge Fellow, Refugee Foster Care

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Refugee Foster Care (RFC) program provides culturally and linguistically appropriate child welfare, foster care, and independent living services to unaccompanied youth in the U.S. who are refugees, Cuban/Haitian entrants, asylees, victims of human trafficking who have an ORR eligibility letter, U-visa holders, and youth who have received Special Immigrant Juvenile Status. Clients may have PTSD or other mental health needs, substance abuse issues, medical needs and other special needs. RFC supports youth with housing, education, health, medical, immigration, mental health, independent living services, and with family reunification efforts when possible. RFC uses strength-based, trauma-informed, and culturally relevant models to build and expand on a youth's natural resources.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The URM Bridge Fellow is a new position on the RFC team. The Bridge Fellow will help lift up youth voices to inform program services and resources through three key areas: mentor current youth in the RFC Program, support with youth leadership opportunities and engagement, and support with organizing RFC events for youth.

This is a temporary, part-time position. Expected end date June 30, 2026.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support youth engagement at RFC organized events
  • Serve as a peer mentor for youth currently in the RFC Program
  • Support the ILP team with ILP classes and activities, as needed
  • Attend Family Night Task Force meetings and assist with event planning
  • Assist with developing and administering surveys to gather program feedback from youth
  • Support with program outreach, as needed
  • Attend team meetings
  • Participate in weekly supervision meetings
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience as a former URM youth
  • Have exited the URM Program for at least one or more years
  • High school diploma or equivalent (e.g., GED, HiSet)
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain personal and programmatic boundaries while providing supportive services
  • Maintain a professional confidential work environment

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bilingual in one or more languages commonly spoken by URM clients (such as Spanish,Tigrinya, Kiswahili, Hindi, Farsi/Dari, Pashto, Arabic, French)
  • Associate's Degree or some postsecondary experience preferred
  • Previous work experience desirable

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Criminal background check via livescan fingerprint
  • Must have TB test performed and submit results
  • Automobile, valid driver’s license and auto insurance per agency policy; or have access to reliable transportation

HOURS AND OTHER CONDITIONS:

  • This is a temporary part-time, non- exempt position based on program needs and the Bridge Fellow’s schedule. All program staff might be expected to work at least one weekday night per month and at least one Saturday per month.
  • Expected end date of assignment is June 30, 2026.
  • Bay Area and occasional out-of-state travel required
