Utilities Meter Technician
Department of Public Works Water and Sewer Division
Minimum: $28.61/hour
Maximum: $30.36/hour
Additional hourly incentives for Limited Water Treatment, Water Distribution
and Work Zone Temporary Traffic Control Certifications
The Water & Sewer Division is dedicated to serving residents of the City of Troy by ensuring that the quality of the drinking water is above all standards and that water needed to fight fires is never compromised. They are also dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient discharge of wastewater to the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) waste treatment facility.
DUTIES
- Perform work with water meters: reading, repairing and installing.
- Provide customer service, describe policies, and relay technical information to residents.
- Work also includes procurement and inventory control of parts, equipment, and supplies.
- Perform general labor work and other similar work assignments.
- Perform Residential Cross Connection Surveys
REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate (or GED equivalent).
- Must have good communication and customer service skills.
- Must have at the time of application, and maintain, a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards).
- Will be required to obtain, and maintain, a commercial driver license (CDL), including air brakes and (N) endorsement, and Medical Card as required by the State of Michigan.
- Applicant will be required to obtain their S-4 Water Certification within one (1) year of their start date.
PREFERENCES
- Experience and knowledge of the City of Troy water and sewer system.
- Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) Water System Operator certification of S-4 or higher.
RECRUITMENT PROCESS

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
- Applicants must receive at least a score of 70 on the interview to be placed on the eligible list.
- Vacancy will be filled pursuant to Article 22 Posting of Vacancy in the current AFSCME collective bargaining agreement.
HOURS
Monday – Friday; 6:30 am – 3:00 pm.
Overtime is required at times; employees should work at least 50% of offered overtime.
