- Maintaining diverse plantings of trees, shrubs, vines, perennials, grasses, and bulbs;
- Performing gardening tasks following seasonal schedules and project plans including hand weeding, pruning, grooming planting, dividing and transplanting, leaf removal, and mulching;
- Performing prescribed and corrective maintenance on stormwater bioretention facilities;
- Using a variety of gardening equipment, hand, and power tools in the performance of gardening maintenance duties;
- Mowing, trimming, and edging;
- Working with a small team to install and water new garden designs;
- Responding to citizen’s questions, comments, and concerns, in a professional manor;
- Litter Removal;
- Clearing snow from sidewalks during snow events.
- Ability to report to work during winter weather emergencies
- Ability to work in conditions that include inclement weather (heat, cold, rain), biting or stinging insects, and pollen and other plant irritants.
- Ability to regularly lift and move 30 lbs., squat, and stand for prolonged periods of time
- Ability to work unsupervised

Minimum Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED; and,
- One year of progressively responsible related experience; or
- Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Valid Driver’s License
- A strong interest in plants and public horticulture
- Knowledge of North American native plants and common landscape plants in the Mid-Atlantic region
- Experience using mechanical landscaping equipment and/or larger equipment
- Knowledge of routine small engine maintenance
