About Us
Fridays is a creative services studio focusing on film, video, and visual media. We are a team of directors, producers, and editors who write, produce, shoot, edit, and design many different types of productions including national broadcast ads, multi-camera live streaming productions, documentary-style testimonials, non-profit fundraising campaigns, and short form online-social media spots. We have an office in Berkeley, CA and our team is a mix of local and remote employees who have hybrid and remote work schedules. Many of us have worked together for years, and we’re always seeking new talent and fresh takes on production.
The Role
Fridays video editors can be a one-stop talent for post-production and video finishing, on a project team with distributed responsibilities, editorial support for motion graphics projects, or working on a previsualization pre-production team.
Editors are responsible for proficiency in all these modes, usually not at the same time, but you never know. It’s not atypical to be working on multiple projects at once.
The Day to Day
Creative cutting and finishing at Fridays emphasizes established editing conventions, effective storytelling, and realizing the vision of a project’s internal and external creative leads or directors. Editors accomplish this through confident manipulation of live action production footage, video stock, voiceover narration, on-camera sound, stock or composed music and its stems, sound effects, graphics, animation (usually made by a video design team), and captioning. A finishing process, by the editor or specialists, addresses color balance and correction and sound mixing. The most in-demand, therefore successful, editors continually present working styles high in: congeniality and a proactive orientation toward results, creativity, ability to balance following direction and fresh ideas, attention to detail, effective & proactive communication & time management, consistency of quality, flexibility in approach, and follow through.
Upon project completion, editors do a “close out” process that gets project files, assets, and exports into an organized state for archiving.
This position is managed by the head of post-production, receives oversight from the chief technology officer, and day to day, project-specific direction by producers and directors.
This is a freelance contract role initially, with the potential to convert to full time employment.
