JOB SUMMARY:


The James C. Kennedy Waterfowl and Wetlands Conservation Center at Clemson University in collaboration with the South Carolina Waterfowl Association, Palmetto Waterfowl, and the University of Texas at El Paso is seeking a highly motivated Waterfowl Biologist to lead fieldwork for a collaborative research project examining the behavior, habitat use, survival, and fecundity of wild and game-farm mallards in South Carolina, and other duties as assigned. The incumbent will work closely with a Ph.D. student at Clemson University and private landowners. Other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES:


25% - Essential - Collaborate and communicate effectively with university researchers, private landowners, conservation partners, and research stakeholders to ensure seamless data collection, land access, and implementation of research objectives, while providing updates and representing the project in a professional and conservation minded manner.

20% - Essential - Lead field operations to capture, band, bleed, and mark wild, game-farm, and hybrid mallards using walk-in and swim-in traps across diverse public and private wetland habitat.

20% - Essential - Coordinate deployment and monitoring of GPS-GSM and VHF telemetry transmitters on marked birds to assess behavior, habitat use, and movement ecology.

20% - Essential - Collect and manage biological samples, including blood for genetic analysis in partnership with collaborators at the University of Texas at El Paso, and maintain accurate records of morphometrics and banding data.

15% - Essential - Other duties as assigned, including but not limited to, report writing, vehicle maintenance, equipment repair, preparation of maps, summaries, or visualizations, training of volunteers and other students, and assist with permit documentation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education - Bachelor's Degree - Biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area.
Work Experience - 1+ years demonstrated experience in capturing, handling, and banding waterfowl or other avian species, experience using VHF telemetry, physically fit and capable of working in rugged field conditions, self-motivated, and strong communication skills

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:


Education - Master's Degree - Wildlife Biology or related field.
Licenses - Drivers License Class D normal < 26,000 and reliable transportation
Work Experience - 2+ years experience leading field crews or managing volunteers, skilled in waterfowl trapping techniques, familiarity with UTV/ATV operation and field equipment, analytical experience with band-recovery data

COMPENSATION INFORMATION


Anticipated Salary Range - $33,00.000 to $45,000.00


Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.


ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL


Normal Operations

Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
