The Port of Hood River is seeking a motivated, community-focused professional to join us as a Waterfront Coordinator. This transitional role is part of our succession plan and provides a structured path for gaining the institutional knowledge needed to eventually manage our waterfront and marina. You’ll take charge of key projects like overseeing the Port Foundation, maintaining records, researching funding opportunities, and supporting efforts toward financial sustainability. Building strong relationships with community partners and waterfront users is also a key part of the role.
While you’ll take on important responsibilities, formal management authority begins only after successfully moving into the Waterfront Manager position. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced professional to contribute to the stewardship and future success of a vital community asset.
Key Responsibilities:
Note: Full responsibilities will be assumed after the first year, upon successful transition into the Waterfront Manager role. The initial year will focus on project-based work, institutional learning, and progressive assumption of duties.
- Manage waterfront and marina leases, permits, and agreements.
- Oversee the Port of Hood River Foundation’s programs and planning.
- Oversee the seasonal paid parking program and respond to public concerns.
- Serve as main contact for consultants, agencies, tenants, and stakeholders.
- Coordinate use of public amenities, signage, and waterfront communications.
- Prepare reports, memos, and presentations; assist with grant proposals.
- Maintain organized, compliant records and manage contracts.
- Monitor maintenance, safety, and regulatory compliance for waterfront facilities.
- Conduct inspections and coordinate repairs and capital improvements.
- Manage tenant billing, lease accounts, and electric charges.
- Enforce compliance with lease terms and marina rules.
- Resolve tenant inquiries and support high-quality customer service.
- Develop policies for waterfront operations and recreation access.
- Support capital projects and identify new revenue opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
- Lead sustainability initiatives and represent the Port in safety matters.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in operations, lease/contract management, waterfront or marina work, or similar. Experience with capital projects, revenue initiatives, or supervising staff/vendors is a plus.
- Supervision: Prior supervisory experience preferred; leadership potential required.
- Approvals: Must be bondable.
- Certifications: Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Background Check: Must pass a pre-employment background check.
