Job Summary
A diligent and dependable Yard/Wash Person is needed to join the construction team. This role is essential for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe yard environment, ensuring equipment is in optimal condition, and supporting the overall operational efficiency of the facility. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter with a strong work ethic and a commitment to safety.
Responsibilities
- Yard Maintenance & Organization:
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the yard, including sweeping, debris removal, and ensuring safe walkways.
- Load and unload materials and equipment from trucks and trailers, including securing loads properly.
- Assist with inventory management, including sorting, organizing, and tracking materials and tools within the yard and warehouse.
- Ensure all equipment is properly staged for delivery or storage.
- Operate various yard equipment, such as forklifts, skid steers, and pallet jacks, safely and efficiently.
- Equipment Washing & Cleaning:
- Thoroughly clean and wash construction equipment, including heavy machinery, using pressure washers, steam cleaners, and appropriate cleaning agents.
- Inspect cleaned equipment for damage or issues and report findings to the appropriate personnel.
- Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the wash bay area.
- Ensure proper treatment of hoses and other cleaning tools.
- Check and clean the water-recycling system daily.
- General Support:
- Assist with basic equipment demonstration and customer interactions as needed.
- Support other departments and perform miscellaneous tasks as assigned by the Manager.
- Inform Supervisor/Manager of materials used and report any equipment problems found.
- Safety & Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies, including those related to the safe operation of equipment, handling of materials, and disposal of waste products.
- Utilize and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a yard or warehouse environment, preferably within the construction industry, is preferred.
- Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate yard equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, and pallet jacks.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects (e.g., up to 50-100 pounds) and perform physical activities for extended periods.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Valid driver's license and a clean driving record, if required to drive company vehicles.
- Punctual, reliable, and safety-minded.
- Basic mechanical aptitude preferred.
Physical Demands
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, stoop, kneel, squat, climb, and twist for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity to handle, control, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or tote up to 50 lbs. frequently, and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
- Visual acuity to see details both near and far, as well as depth perception.
- Auditory skills to hear sounds and recognize differences between them, particularly around equipment.
