The Joplin Family YMCA is looking for positive role models, including college students pursuing degrees in education or child development, to serve as School Site Directors in our After School Program. Position Summary:
The School Site Director leads the daily schedule for the YMCA After School program. Programming is located at elementary schools in Joplin, Webb City, or Carl Junction. You'll create fun, structured activities, support children's academic and social development, and represent the YMCA while communicating to parents, teachers, and principals.
This is an ideal position for college students in education programs looking for practical experience.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Must meet one of the following:
- Be a current college student with a minimum of 60 credit hours, including at least 12 hours in child-related courses, OR
- Hold a college degree in education or a related field
- Must pass a background check
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
- CPR/First Aid
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement weekly activity schedules that promote learning, creativity, and social development
- Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all participants at all times
- Supervise and actively engage with children in a positive, responsive, and supportive manner
- Maintain accurate attendance records and continuously monitor the location and participation of each child
- Oversee daily after school snack program, ensuring it follows USDA guidelines in coordination with the Joplin R8 School District (food service sites only)
- Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, and YMCA leadership
- Maintain professional relationships with school districts and licensing officials
- Ensure that all program practices and facilities comply with state licensing standards and YMCA policies
- Secure all School Plus records and uphold confidentiality standards
- Address and document any incidents or accidents immediately, reporting to the Coordinator/Director
- Maintain proper discipline and behavior guidelines in alignment with YMCA policies
- Attend required in-service training sessions and staff meetings
- Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of program areas and supplies
- Respond to customer service concerns in a timely and professional manner
- Understand and follow Joplin Family YMCA personnel policies
- Perform other duties as assigned by the School Plus Coordinator or Director
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, squat, kneel, and lift up to 20 lbs.
Work Hours:
- Monday–Friday: 2:30 PM to 6:00 PM (Perfect for college students looking for part-time work that complements their school schedule.)
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $17.00 per hour
Expected hours: 12 – 18 per week
