About Macromill

Macromill is a leading company in online research and marketing research. By leveraging online survey data and consumer purchase data, we help businesses better understand consumer needs and behaviour, enabling them to make smarter marketing decisions.

To support our next stage of growth, we are undergoing a major technology transformation. We are rebuilding our platforms with modern technologies and a powerful data foundation to deliver faster, more accurate, and more scalable marketing research solutions.

About the Data Department

The Data Department owns Oasis, Macromill's data platform. Our vision is for Oasis to be the single foundation the whole company builds on: one place where data is trustworthy, governed, and ready to become products and decisions. The platform is live and the business already runs on it. Now we're taking it from a working platform to that foundation, built on three pillars — Data Governance, Data Democratisation and Data Monetisation.

This role is where that next chapter starts.

Responsibilities

Turn Oasis into the data platform the business can count on and every other service can build on. Own its roadmap and vision, and bridge the business and engineering so that business goals turn into the right things to build.

Set the Vision and Own the Roadmap

Decide where Oasis is going and in what order. Turn business goals and engineering constraints into one prioritised roadmap, and own the trade-offs. Work with leadership to turn big, vague ideas — "we need better data access," "this should be a real platform" — into concrete, sequenced plans.

Bridge Business and Engineering

Partner with business stakeholders to understand the goal behind a request, not just the feature they ask for. Work with engineering to turn it into technical requirements, propose the right solution, and guide requests that wouldn't solve the underlying problem toward ones that do.

Make Data Trusted and Easy to Use

Define what "finished, reusable" data looks like, who can produce and consume it, and the access and reuse rules around it. Specify self-service access so teams can find and use governed data without a bespoke engineering ticket.

Bring the Remaining Legacy Tools onto the Platform

Lead the move of the remaining legacy analytics tools and workflows onto Oasis: set priorities with business teams, plan the cutover, and keep operations running throughout.

Build a Platform Others Can Rely On

Keep Oasis coherent as it grows: decide when a team needs its own environment and when the platform should serve the need, and route new capability requests onto the roadmap instead of patching them one by one. Explore the "data as a product" direction — what data or capability could be packaged for other business units or external customers.

Why Join Us?

Own a Platform That Matters

Oasis holds rare, high-value consumer data — survey responses and purchase history — and the business already runs on it. What you decide directly shapes how fast Macromill makes decisions and grows, and helps Macromill's data products go from proof of concept to business scale.

Shape What Comes Next

Governance, self-service access and data monetisation are open problems, and your judgment decides the answer. Monetisation could turn data into a product Macromill offers beyond its own walls.

Join a Global, Multicultural Team

Engineers across Tokyo, Fukuoka, Vietnam and India work remote-first, meet regularly in person, and believe good ideas can come from anywhere.

Be at the Forefront of Digital Transformation

Macromill is modernising 20+ years of systems and building its in-house engineering from the ground up, with AI tools in everyday use. You'll help shape how it works from the start, with the stability of an established company behind you, and grow a rare mix of technical depth and business perspective.

Application Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of product management experience, including at least 1 year on data products, data platforms, or data infrastructure
  • A track record of owning a roadmap, prioritising competing demands, and turning business goals into clear requirements and acceptance criteria in agile delivery
  • Working knowledge of SQL, data modelling, data pipelines (ETL/ELT) and a cloud data warehouse (e.g. BigQuery, Athena, Snowflake, Databricks), enough to read and challenge technical designs
  • Solid grounding in data governance and access control, including data management frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK and data quality dimensions (e.g. accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness)
  • Proven ability to influence and align stakeholders, from engineers to executives
  • Business-level Japanese and English: comfortable communicating ideas in both

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in any of software engineering, data engineering, data analytics, or data science, with hands-on experience in tools such as GCP, BigQuery, or orchestration and transformation tooling
  • Experience with PII/data classification or regulatory compliance
  • Experience shaping a "data as a product" or data monetisation strategy, or product-managing a legacy-to-modern platform migration
  • Domain knowledge of market research, consumer data, or marketing measurement
  • Daily use of AI tools to raise productivity

Who are we looking for

A Persuader Who Proposes and Champions Ideas

Hears "we need better data access" and arrives with a scoped proposal, then builds the case and brings people along. Turns a platform vision into a story that engineers, business leaders and executives can all rally behind, adapts the message to each audience, steers discussions toward a decision, and is candid and constructive enough to reshape an ask into the right fix.

A Stakeholder Manager Who Earns Trust, Up to the Executive Level

Keeps many stakeholders with competing priorities aligned. Listens first, understands the goal behind a request, and is candid about trade-offs. Negotiates with senior leaders as an equal: frames decisions and asks concisely, holds a position respectfully under pressure, and leaves with commitments, not just nods. Relationships stay strong even after a "not now".

Credible with Both Business and Engineering

Equally credible with a business leader and an engineering lead. Technical enough to challenge a design and explain it plainly, and at home moving between Japanese and English, so no translator is needed.

Product-Minded, Platform-First

Treats the platform as a product: success is whether the people building on it get what they need, and every recurring request is a chance to build something many teams can reuse rather than another patch.

Language Requirements

  • Japanese: Business level
  • English: Business level, for working with a global engineering team
