Senior Manager, Product Planning
Position SummarySmartphone Product Planner (Manager)
This role will be a part of the US smartphone advanced product planning team and tasked to drive and co-lead product development, innovation and device strategy for a portfolio of products in the US market. The individual will support the US mobile product planning team, product marketing team, carriers & retail account teams, mobile marketing team and our HQ (Korea) product planning and strategy team. A successful individual will strive to become the expert on the market, our consumer/customers as well as on the overall mobile market. Candidate should function as product expert of Samsung and competitor portfolios and will assist in developing portfolio products in collaboration with HQ counterpart(s). This role is not limited to product planning, but also supporting product launch strategy value proposition, key sales points, story-telling.
Duties & Responsibilities:
\tClosely work with HQ product planning and strategy team to define/refine, recommend and finalize US portfolio and roadmap strategy for next and future products (12-24 months out)
\tWork with various internal teams to conduct data collections, research and insight creation to determine unique selling points of products
\tDefine key USP (unique selling point) of product that can be communicated with US markets needs and competitive nature in premium mobile phone market
\tPerform periodic market/consumer/competitor analysis frequently to advocate regional specific needs (US)
\tWork with US Content & Services team to drive key value proposition of devices from a software and content perspective of the products and grow ecosystem for the portfolio
\tProvide technology insights to leap-frog our product development path for next 12-24 months
\tWork closely with product marketing team and sales teams to understand customer strategies, technology and service rollouts and provide a tactical and strategic level of product or portfolio recommendation
Role and Responsibilities
Background & Experience:
A candidate should have a prior strategic role coupled with a strong focus on product development.
A plus communication, both written and oral skills are highly required.
Previous experience in product development (consumer electronics), product innovation/consulting, data and pricing analysis, technology marketing/analysis, consumer insights and analysis highly sought after.
This role will require direct communication with customers as well as Samsung stake holders and executive leadership interface. Hence ability to influence strategic decisions and product decision are

- Demonstrate ability to formulate and defend opinions regarding market and competitor impact on current and future product roadmap
- Demonstrate flexibility to adhere to needs of diverse audiences
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to facilitate meetings and develop relationship with internal counterparts and departments
- Highly self-motivate, work independently and in a team environment in order to achieve personal and team goals and complete assignments within established time frames
A successful candidate should have an open mind, be both detail oriented, while retaining a view of the big picture. They should be passionate about the technology or consumer electronics industry. The candidate should be well grounded in terms of roll up your sleeves work, identifying practical solutions to complex problems, and following those issues through to closure. A successful candidate should be grounded in numerical and data analysis, while understanding the dynamics of this rapidly changing market.
- Minimum 10+ years of full time work experience in consulting, product organization
- MBA or master degree is preferred
- Prior experience in the mobile manufacturing space is a plus
- Excellent storytelling skills and communication skills
- Strong analytical in various data points, problem solving skills in product developments
