What You'll Take Ownership Of:

  • Administer and maintain our LAN and WAN across every Acme Tools location — switches, routers, wireless access points, and firewalls.
  • Assist with design and implementing network changes, including VLAN segmentation, routing, and quality-of-service policies.
  • Manage enterprise wireless across our retail floors, warehouses, and offices, along with site-to-site and remote access VPN connectivity.
  • Assist with trouble shooting during outages, follow through with root cause analysis, and plan firmware upgrades and hardware refreshes during scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Administer, patch, and monitor our physical and virtual servers on-premises and in the cloud, along with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and Microsoft 365.
  • Keep our virtualization hosts and the guest servers running on them healthy as demand grows.
  • Follow our established backup strategy to manage data protection and disaster recovery, verifying jobs and testing restores on a regular schedule.
  • Track system performance, capacity, and utilization to catch issues early, and support recovery efforts when failures do happen.
  • Support end-user workstations and mobile devices, from imaging and deployment through escalated hardware and software issues.
  • Assist in configuration of tune firewall policy, content filtering, and intrusion detection and prevention.
  • Apply endpoint protection and hardening standards across servers, workstations, and network devices, staying ahead of emerging threats to the equipment we run.
  • Manage identity and access — provisioning, permissions, and multi-factor authentication.
  • Act as Tier 2 support for the IT Service Team, resolving escalated issues in a timely manner.
  • Listen to the challenges departments are facing and develop solutions that bring real value to their teams.
  • Partner with the IT Infrastructure Manager on vendor relationships and on evaluating new technology worth adopting.
  • Ensure the components behind our ISP circuits and facility technology stay in working order, broadband failover, access control and video surveillance, phone systems, and cabling.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, topology diagrams, IP addressing, cabling layouts, and asset inventory.

Need-To-Haves:

  • Degree in Computer & Network Technology, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Solid grasp of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, subnetting, DNS, and DHCP, plus a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge on administering Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365, with some exposure to Linux server administration.
  • Working knowledge of backup and recovery, along with virtualization such as Nutanix or Hyper-V.
  • Strong communication and customer service, explaining technical issues patiently to non-technical employees and building good working relationships across the company.
  • Comfortable juggling projects and competing priorities, we're deliberate about most of our work, but when something needs to move fast, we move fast.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and travel occasionally to our other sites, including overnight stays.
  • Prompt and reliable attendance

Love-To-Haves:

  • Vendor networking certifications from Extreme Networks (ECA/ECS), Fortinet (FCA, FCP, or the legacy NSE track), or Cisco Meraki (CMSS/ECMS).
  • Broader credentials such as Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or CompTIA Security+.
  • Demonstrated expertise administering Microsoft 365 and Entra ID — tenant configuration, identity, and security policy.
  • Hands-on time with enterprise backup platforms.
  • Automation experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell or Python.

Physical Requirements

This role is hands-on with equipment in our stores, warehouses, and server rooms. It requires the ability to lift 70+ lbs, work on ladders and in ceiling spaces, stand or walk for up to 10 hours, and push, pull, squat, bend, sit, crawl, and reach.

*Employment offers are contingent on a drug screen and background check. This position is required to work in-office in Grand Forks, ND a majority of the time.
