JOB SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and tuning in-house computer software and network connections to ensure high levels of availability and security of the supported business applications. This individual also participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure system provisioning and maintenance that is consistent with company goals, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Primary contact for application software outages.
  • Work in System Center Configuration Manager daily by using it to troubleshoot device issues, deploying operating systems and applications, and managing and deploying operating system updates.
  • Manage all operating systems and end-user software.
  • Manage electronic communications and connection solutions, including workstation connectivity, local area networks, intranet, and internet applications.
  • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers, multiple databases, and during data transfer in accordance to business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide support for Gaming applications like F9, 1099/1042 tax software, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Provide support for Government applications like StockTrac, ArcGIS, IDPoint, and Badger meter system.
  • Provide support for GTR applications like Dynamics and Rainbird.
  • Provide support for GTED/GTEC/BSSW applications like AutoCAD, Syteline, Solidworks, and Quickbooks.
  • Analyze application and device performance.
  • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and hardware improvements, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
  • Working in Active Directory creating users/vendors, distribution groups, security groups, assigning permissions.
  • Developing and maintaining Group Policy within the domain
  • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development.
  • Participate in and support capacity planning and the development of long-term strategic goals for systems and software in conjunction with end-users and department managers.
  • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
  • Manage and/or provide guidance to junior members of the team.
  • Assist level 1 and level 2 with any questions and/or work order tickets when needed.
  • Provide periodic on-call support.
  • Maintain tracking of software issues and resolutions.
  • Maintain distribution and tracking of all software licenses and upgrades.
  • Implement, document and maintain software passwords and work with appropriate department as backup for security access.
  • Assist department managers and IT Management with custom reporting needs.
  • Liaison with contractors and vendors concerning business systems and related systems.
  • Review new business systems strategies with the appropriate department, IT Infrastructure Manager, and Director of IT.
  • Work with IT Infrastructure Manager during budget development.
  • Work with Director of IT on annual strategic report.
  • Willingness to cross-train and provide support in related areas of operations.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the IT Infrastructure Manager or Director of IT.

OTHER NECESSARY SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Must possess excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate both verbally, and in written form.

  • Must respond to supervisory guidance and assignments and accept constructive criticisms in order to learn new, updated information. Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Good understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Thorough understanding of server-side software and administration.
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Office products.
  • Thorough understanding of TCP/IP, DCHP, DNS, WINS, and static IP addressing.
  • Knowledge of Windows Server, and Exchange Server (MCP/MCSE).
  • Strong knowledge of local area network administration.
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with data management.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 18 years of age with a High School Diploma or a GED.

4-year degree in computer science or related study and/or 6 years equivalent work experience.

Extensive technical knowledge of network, PC, platform operating systems, and AS400.

Advanced technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards including firewalls, active directory, and windows based operating systems.

Strong application support experience with storage solutions, Exchange, Microsoft Office, Antivirus, and backup software.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Senior Systems Technicians.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED

Multi-line telephone, computer, printer, copier, and fax.

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

Must have valid, Michigan driver’s license and be insurable by the GTRC.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must be physically able to operate a variety of job-related machines and/or office equipment. Must be able to move or carry job-related objects or materials exceeding 50 lbs.

TYPICAL MENTAL DEMANDS

Must be able to effectively handle stressful and compromising situations while remaining focused and professional. Must be able to deal with difficult people without losing perspective. Must be able to work productively under strict time restraints with variable deadlines.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be able and willing to work in a crowded, loud smoking environment. Must be able to handle being under constant surveillance. May be required to work in a small spaces. Must practice all safety policies, procedures and standards as set by OSHA. Some travel may be required for the needs of the business or for further training regarding the department or the business. Use of personal vehicle will be required for job.

COMMENTS

Native American and Tribal Preference will apply. Must be able to pass a background investigation and a drug and alcohol urinalysis as a condition of employment. Must be able to work flexible hours and to take on additional responsibilities when asked. Must adhere to company policies regarding strict confidentiality.
