Owns the support and change management processes for large and/or complex credit policy, risk and/or marketing projects, or risk technology platforms requiring advanced analytical, quantitative and technical skills. Demonstrated mastery of their area in order to develop and recommend credit-related policies.

Impact on the Business

  • Develop and implement new credit origination, monitoring and tracking systems designed to determine the effectiveness of alternate strategies for account origination, credit limit management, customer relationship management, account profitability, attrition and collections.
  • Prepares, communicates, interprets and ensures adherence to credit policies, procedures and underwriting guidelines for first and second mortgage products. Review existing credit policies, program offerings and performance of loans, obtains approval for changes to credit/risk policies to maintain appropriate level of risk/reward. Ensures proper usage of automated underwriting systems. Manage the process of Delegating Underwriting to mortgage staff. Provides related training and support.
  • Work with senior management in the development of systems and strategies to be employed in credit risk management.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Liaise with external agencies such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, VA, internal departments such as Sales, Operations, Compliance, Systems Administration, Product Development and others with regard to credit risk.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Lead and develop an effective team through communication, performance management, development plans and reward/recognition practices. Cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.
  • May supervise, train and review the work of Credit Risk Analysts within projects managed.
  • Train and provide on-going technical support to underwriting personnel in underwriting and risk assessment. Support the development and education of all parties possessing credit authority including the distribution of instructional materials and offering of classes.
  • May participate in managing credit data expenses, coordinating credit bureau reporting, systemic translation of credit bureau attributes and credit decision processing.
  • Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Monitor and evaluate performance of credit support systems utilizing internal or external scoring, management software packages or programs to aid in managing account acquisition with minimal management supervision.
  • Maintain underwriter authority levels, and partner with systems maintenance teams to
    ensure appropriate and up to date authority levels are maintained in acquisition systems.
  • Responsible for ensuring that account acquisition or account management systems are operating efficiently. Tests programs and implements new policy changes and/or systems for account acquisition or account management systems.

Role Context

  • This position may act as a team leader or as an individual contributor/technical subject matter expert.
  • 7 years’ experience or equivalent in mortgage underwriting with expertise developing and/or applying policies and procedures that comply with mortgage policy guidelines, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Mortgage Insurance Programs, and/or portfolio lending program guidelines
    This position may also work with other support teams such as Vendor Management and/or Technology Services.

  • Ensure compliance, operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.

Observation of Internal Controls

  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Five years proven statistical analysis and/or MIS experience, or equivalent. Management experience as well as knowledge and understanding of financial services preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Well-developed organizational, analytical, problem-solving, project management and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages. Strong programming skills to include knowledge of statistical programs (i.e. SAS, SAP) and/or advanced database programs.
Qualifications
