About Us:
Pursuit of Happiness Inc. (POH Memphis) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering high school girls in Memphis and Shelby County—especially those aging out of foster care or facing systemic barriers. Our mission is to guide girls through mentorship, college and career access, life skills training, and purpose discovery. Since 2017, we’ve supported over 100 young women with college scholarships, leadership training, and transformational sisterhood.
Position Overview:
We are currently seeking dynamic, committed, and values-aligned volunteer board members to support our next phase of growth. As a board member, you will provide strategic leadership, community connections, and oversight to help expand our programs, secure sustainable funding, and amplify our impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Attend quarterly board meetings and annual planning retreats
- Serve on one committee (e.g., Programs & Impact, Fundraising, Housing & Licensing, CSR)
- Actively participate in fundraising and donor cultivation
- Provide strategic guidance on mission alignment, partnerships, and growth
- Serve as a visible ambassador of POH in the community
- Leverage your network to bring in resources, connections, or opportunities
We Are Especially Seeking Individuals With Experience In:
- Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) or DEI
- Fundraising and Development
- Education or Youth Advocacy
- Mental Health or Social Work
- Real Estate, Licensing, or Housing
- Nonprofit Law or Board Governance
Time Commitment:
- 4–6 hours per month (includes meetings, outreach, and event support)
- 1-year minimum commitment
