Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an Archaeological Field Technician to serve as part of a crew collecting relevant data during a cultural resources survey. This data includes, but is not limited to, presence/absence of cultural material, soil types, textures and colors, stratigraphic profiles, and surrounding conditions. The successful candidate must be able to perform repetitive, manual labor in a variety of conditions. This person will be under the supervision of a crew chief but must be able to follow directions and perform duties independently as necessary.
Responsibilities:
- Perform Phase I level surveys including reconnaissance and shovel testing.
- Collect relevant field data and prepare necessary digital documentation.
- Employ basic knowledge of soil types and topographic features when conducting survey.
- Identify cultural features and/or material in the field.
- Utilize basic artifact knowledge to make general date and type assessments of artifacts in the field.
- Delineate archaeological and/or architectural sites.
- Complete required field forms including but not limited to – daily job reports, shovel test forms, site forms, PRA forms, etc.
- Assist with Phase II or Phase III archaeological investigations under the direct supervision of field director or Principal Investigator.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Anthropology, Archaeology or another related field preferred.
- 0-1 years of experience and willingness to learn.
- Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
