JOB DESCRIPTION
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
The Assistant Vice President is a senior leader at SUNY Erie working closely with the President and other members of College team. This individual will play a key role in strengthening internal operations, advancing strategic initiatives, and deepening partnerships across the SUNY Erie. The position is designed to enhance organizational effectiveness while launching and managing high-impact special projects that expand the College’s visibility, partnerships, and long-term sustainability.
This role is well-suited for a thoughtful, strategic, and collaborative leader who thrives in dynamic, mission-driven environments and is energized by working alongside a passionate and nimble team. Candidates should bring a deep appreciation for higher education and college access, and ideally, direct experience working with or within a community college environment.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
Executive Leadership & Strategic Support
- Serves as a key advisor and collaborator to the President and Senior Leadership Team on institutional priorities, critical events, and high-impact initiatives.
- Directs and coordinates special projects initiated by the President in collaboration with senior leadership across the College.
- Assists in the prioritization and execution of capital projects and other high-level institutional initiatives.
- Provides administrative and analytical support, including the preparation of annual reports, talking points, and key documentation.
- Assists the President on special projects and performs other related duties as assigned.
Institutional Planning & Operations
- Leads and improves internal operations, including workflow design, team planning, administrative systems, and event execution.
- Facilitates the development, implementation, and monitoring of strategic and organizational plans.
- Designs and implements divisional policies and procedures to guide daily operations and improve efficiency.
- Reviews and administers administrative policies and systems; leads the adoption of new concepts, technologies, and programs.
- Resolves complex administrative and operational challenges with a proactive, solution-oriented approach.
Collaboration & Communication
- Initiates and coordinates communication across the Senior Leadership Team to ensure alignment and timely execution of priorities.
- Provides accurate and timely information to internal departments, personnel, students, and external stakeholders.
- Collaborates with senior staff to position the College as a responsive partner to SUNY and the local community.
External Relations & Oversight
- Serves as a liaison to SUNY Central Administration, elected officials, and community-based organizations, as directed by the President.
- Monitors performance of contracts, identifies risks, and ensures fulfillment of contractual obligations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution.
- At least five (5) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education, with a focus on strategic planning, policy, and institutional effectiveness.
