The City of Fayetteville is currently recruiting for an Automotive Service Aide to perform routine work in servicing, cleaning and maintaining vehicles and equipment in the City's Transit Department, to include transit equipment and buses; to clean and service the shop areas and equipment; to provide assistance to technical, supervisory and management staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine and non-complex service and repair work on a variety of equipment and vehicles in assigned department.
- Run errands; retrieve parts, tools and other materials needed for mechanical repair; pick up and deliver vehicles and equipment from various locations such as outside garages, body shops, vendors, and dealers.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance of cars and trucks; fuel, grease and lubricate automobiles, trucks and heavy automotive equipment; ensure appropriate fluid levels.
- Install and service batteries, spark plugs, light bulbs, fan belts and other simple mechanical parts.
- Service automotive equipment with gasoline, alternative fuel, and oil; keep records of amounts used.
- Perform service calls; make temporary repairs; pick up parts; road test vehicles to ensure proper operation.
- Clean and repair shop and equipment.
- Assist other automotive technicians in the performance of mechanical repairs as required.
- Assist in general maintenance and cleanliness of automotive shop area.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience:
Six months of experience performing automotive service work.
Training:
Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Required:
Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months a North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License with passenger and air brake endorsements and ability to maintain insurability.
Preferred:
None.
Working hours are Monday - Friday 4:30 PM - 12:30 AM; with rotating Saturdays 4:00 PM - 12:00 AM and Sundays 2:00 PM- 10:00 PM.
From the time of closing, the selection process is anticipated to last approximately 4 - 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the selected candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
