GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) is looking for a dedicated individual wishing to make a difference in the lives of others by assisting our community residents in our Campus Canteen program. This position will help prepare food, run a point of sales system, and maintain focus on goals assigned by the Canteen Manager and our therapists. This position focuses on maintaining a clean work environment and providing consistent, compassionate assistance to our facility residents while documenting daily progress toward their individual goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Function as a food service worker and coach for residents who are goal-focused in a vocational setting.
  • Organize and direct Human Service Aides and Human Service Specialists' work in the care and training of resident workers in a vocational program.
  • Ensure implementation of all goal-oriented work programs, therapeutic, and behavioral programs.
  • Provide ongoing training and direction to enhance resident performance.
  • Monitor and direct a Vocational Programming environment within the kitchen area.
  • Create and oversee the implementation and completion of the daily vocational program schedule, training of work programs, and paid work and retraining issues as they arise.
  • Provide input on performance log entries.
  • Ensure the safety of residents and staff.
  • Work with individuals with many maladaptive behaviors and many different staff personalities.
  • Provide direct care to residents, implement work tasks, ensure residents' personal hygiene, and Behavior Management Programs, and always promote as much independence as possible.
  • Teach, assist, and monitor adult living life skills and vocational skills through formal and informal interactions to encourage growth and independence.
  • Problem-solving to ensure the needs of resident workers are met.
  • Create and establish a work environment cohesive with SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound) work objectives and individual work and equipment.
  • Includes the use of vocational equipment to meet the requirements for each resident's work production (i.e., cleaning food service areas, conducting point of sales transactions, putting together portions of entrees bought and sold, providing customer service requests and care and use of individual pieces of equipment in accordance with the recommended factory information and tasks relevant to their SMART goals).
  • Facilitate communication and ensure all residents are signed off and trained with paid work activities and programs.
  • Responsible for all new resident workers' Vocational Programming Orientation and Training.
  • Responsible for maintaining resident time cards and work tracking sheets in Microsoft programs, including Word and Excel.
  • Provides input on work applications for new jobs.
  • Attend yearly in-services, special workshops, supervisory classes, and conferences to enhance and improve job performance
  • Must be proficient and knowledgeable in the following areas: CPR/ AED and First Aid Certification, Mealtime/Physical Management, Defensive Driving, Lifting, Fire and Disaster, Infection Control, Rights Review, Sexual Harassment, and ServSafe.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications



PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to applicants who have one or more years of experience working in food services in the behavioral health field.

KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities, acquired brain injuries, behavior intervention methods, and strategies.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to use common software applications.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and ability to interact positively with clients, staff, supervisors, guardians, and the public.
  • Ability to teach residents in formal and informal settings.
  • Ability to maintain emotional control in stressful situations.
  • Ability to safely move, position and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities (requires twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling).
  • Ability to see and hear to sufficiently monitor resident safety.
  • Ability to consistently use and demonstrate basic principles of infection control.
  • Ability to follow policies, procedures, guidelines, and facility direction.
  • Ability to work around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience Substitution:
1-3 years of progressive work experience (typically in Education or Instruction)

OR

Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Education)
Experience:
No prior work experience required

Necessary Special Requirements



PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Must be able to safely move (twisting, bending, lifting, kneeling, pushing, pulling), position, and lift people with multiple and severe disabilities.
  • Ability to monitor sounds, noises, residents' location, etc., to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to work alone and/or with multiple residents, some who may display aggressive and challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to work in a high-stress situation.

NOTES:
  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be conducted on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify. We will provide the Social Security Administration, and if necessary, the Department of Homeland Security, with information from each new employee's Form I-9 to confirm work authorization.
