Job Description:
United Academy of Music & Arts is seeking an individual who enriches the learning environment and promotes development through the power of music for our students. The Childcare Specialist with a Music Background plays a crucial role in early childhood education. This individual provides care and supervision to children while integrating music-based activities into the daily curriculum. This is an employee position offering flexible part-time hours with growth opportunities.
Key responsibilities:
- Adapt teaching methods to support children with special needs, demonstrating compassion, flexibility, and creativity.
- Incorporate a variety of musical activities, such as singing, rhythm exercises, movement, and playing simple instruments, to inspire curiosity and learning.
- Build positive relationships with children and their families to ensure a supportive and collaborative learning environment.
Music Education: Developing and implementing age-appropriate music programs and lesson plans, introducing musical instruments and concepts, leading singing and movement activities, and incorporating music into daily routines. This involves using a creative and developmentally appropriate music curriculum.
Child Care and Development: Providing care and guidance to children, fostering their development through a curriculum that includes music and arts. Observing and documenting children's progress, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and promoting self-esteem through music.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborating with colleagues on activities and program improvements, maintaining open communication with parents, and sharing summaries of music instruction with families.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certifications: A degree in early childhood education, music education and/or relevant experience is preferred.
- Strong musical background, with proficiency in singing, basic piano or guitar, and knowledge of music theory.
- Experience teaching or working with young children, including those with special needs.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to the unique learning styles and behavioral needs of children with compassion and flexibility.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build trust with children and families.
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to students’ homes.
- Ability to manage a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends
- Proficiency in a musical instrument, comfort singing, understanding of child development, strong communication and interpersonal skills, creativity, and patience.
